Thread: Spirituality and Dreaming...

I'm reading this book called, "Beyond Birth and Death" it has alot to do with the Muhabarata and Krshna and elevating consciousness. I was wondering if it was in any way or if it could be, in any way, connected to dreaming. The book says that in order to elevate ourselves to a higher level of consciousness, we have to let go of the material world. Concentrate on our inner being, let our consciousness stay focused upon. Would any of this help with my dreaming? Do dreams have anything to do with past lives?

I think you're asking questions which no one can truly answer. Maby you should try asking in the beyond dreaming forum or someone who is more knowledgable in this area. Concentrating on your inner self, perhaps meditating in some way could help with you lucid dreaming (and possibly with normal dreaming as well). Nobody knows exactly what dreams are about. For now all we have are theories, while others have their beliefs.

all that does help with dreaming and the skills you can acheive, but it sounds to me like your talking about seperate reality's and the layers of different world like an onion(as Castana talks about) it all helps with dreams, meditation, yoga, and inner self experience to be with inside yourself and let go to a degree.
look up some books on Carlos Castansa, and even on this site there is heaps on him everywhere.

Hi Vespewtine, as far as I know, spiritual things and all the books and things you're talking about can help with dreams. But Spiritual Abilities are one step higher than Dream Mastery. With spiritual abilities you can have OBEs APs and all kind of weird things. With those abilities you don't have to be asleep to have something paranormal going on. And to answer your question, dreams have nothing to do with spirits or past lives. As I always said, (other members of DV have sayed too) "dreams are in your head and stay there. Of course your books and the abilities CAN help you with dreaming but... LDs don't require that much. What I mean is that what you're reading or trying to do is more for OBEs and APs than dreams. I hope this answers your questions.

Sharkrider - With all due respect - to you and others on this forum - I disagree. SOME dreams are in, and a product of, your head. I would even go so far as to say MOST dreams. However - and since this IS the "Beyond Dreaming" forum, I think there's space for this - there ARE dreams that are Spiritual in origin, meaning, and purpose.

Those dreams have a much different texture and feel than ordinary, "playground of the mind" dreams.

Carlos Castaneda has already been mentioned in this thread. His book, "Tales of Power" delves extensively into the Spiritual nature of the Dreamtime. Do not be so quick to discount dreams as mere figments of an overactive imagination or as Scrooge said, "...some bit of undigested beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato."

Vespewtine - Admittedly I come at dreaming from a Spiritual perspective and certainly, not everyone shares my beliefs or committments. That's fine. However, much of what you are asking does fall into a Spiritual realm.

In the Dreamtime, time and distance are nonexistant and the divide between the physical (Tonal) world and the Spirit world (Nagual) is very thin and much more easily breached by both sides. It is a sort of "middle ground" and very powerful things can happen there; including past-life regression, connection to those who have crossed over, and communication with your Spirit Guides.

Lucid Dreaming is a first step to consciously and conscientiously walking and working in that realm - Shamanism 101 if you will.

Your beliefs are yours, of course, and you may do with this what you will. I just wanted to toss out an alternative to "Dreams are only in your head and stay there," approach.

Yeah I'll have to agree with you! I'm a beleiver myself too. But you have to be really experienced and have some very good abilities to go out of the ordinary with dreams. But, good point. So maybe after all dreams, have something to do with spiritual world...sometimes. Anyways, what I meant to say is that all those books and other spiritual things are more for OBEs and APs than dreams. But, I also said it CAN help you to have some weird dreams. And...I always had that idea in my head that dreams sometimes are more than just dreams.

I think you're right. I need to stay more open and try to meditate more. A Hindu told me this a few days ago and I realized it to be more true than ever before.

I have had OBE's before and maybe that's where I really want to be.
