Visions Appearing In The Waking State

Hi, im curious what you think of this occurance that is happenning to me, from your own experience or perspective..
A strange thing that has happenned to me gradually over a number of years is in my left eye. My vision through it has become hazy and often dreamy and wave-like, while my right eye vision has remained perfect. Ive seen optomotrists about it and they basically have given me they're educated opinions and just tried to sell me glasses, which don't work. Lately though, as i've become more interested in the astral and lucid I have noticed dream-like swirlings that appear as some sort of darting and swirling sea slugs type entities. It usualy only occurs late at night when i am already sleepy, so i didn't pay much attention to it until recently. Now i have come to realise they only appear on my left side, by the vision of my left eye. The forms of these things have changed also. I've noticed what appear to be electicly-charged fast glowing things that dissapear quickly. These are only very lucid since that is how i always see out of my left eye. Most recently when realizing the swirling lucid entities, like streams of black smoke, i can almost make out faces formed by them and they sometimes take the whole form of someone or something in what seems like a remote location from where i am. it's hard to tell just how real they are because their nature is very dream-like, but i'm finding it very interesting. i can easily dismiss it as imagination but i am inclined to be more open minded than the general consensus on these things, that's why i want to hear what you people here have to say about it.

Your eye problem, is it Glaucoma?

Anyway, when you approach the hazy state of sleep you may experience odd brain associations based on your senses and what your brain has seen and imagined it its lifetime. If your brain has difficulty figuring out what your defective eye is seeing then you may experience strange hallucinations (Image substitution).

When I go to sleep, in the darkness of my shut eyes, I often see waves of light interfering with one another that eventually creates images, faces, people and places. Are those places real and am I seeing these places in real time or is it just a representation of what I have seen? I can’t tell.

Look up hypnogogic and WILD

Now, if what your are seeing is real, somewhere other than in your mind, that would be difficult to prove.

Seeing floating glowing slugs that no one else sees has been the subject of a few Science Fiction movies and TV shows. Star Trek, Star Gate, Buckaroo Bonzai and another 1980’s movie of a guy experimenting with other dimensions…. Your brain might have picked it up then.

thanks icuurd, i see what your saying but i think of it more in astral terms than a functioning of the brain. i'm not one to analyze dreams by brain patterns. but yeah, i get those light interfering arrays aswell sometimes when going to sleep that form abstract imagery but rarely form imagery as real as you mentioned.

hypnagogic is vagely similar to what ive experienced. what i see aren't associations from any movies though, or substitues of not making out visuals clearly, they are different and only barely noticable. I describe them like sea-slug type things because they move around as though they are under water, not restricted by gravity here but they seem to dart around like they have life of their own in a way, just not actual 'slugs'.

These things, do they seem to float quickly in one place and then gradually float down? If you move your eye, do they seem to follow the direction of your eye though not precisely? Do they look like short dark strings or dots or dust bunnies sometimes surrounded by a liquid-transparent-aura-like distortion? Is it almost impossible to focus on them (Only see them indirectly while relaxingly looking at something else)?

If yes to all the above, I have those. I was told they were eye floaters (Only one eye has it). Though later I told my optometrist and she said I should not be able to see them.

Now I know she was wrong. I found this site that has a simulation you can download and install:

You can add floaters and move the mouse around to simulate eye movement and, in turn, see how the floaters move accordingly.

Mine look like dust strings.

Yeah that's interesting, I do see those floaters too.and whenever I've asked people in the past they haven't had a clue what i was talking about, and optomotrists didn't say too much to me about it. In fact I had forgotten about them for a long time until you just mentioned it. They have been there for as long as I can remember.. to me they appear like tiny groups of transparent bubbles sometimes with aura qualities. I've found it strange how they gradually float down but somehow remain there in the centre of vision. thanks for posting the link. and i also have experienced most of what else is on that simuator at times. the blood cell things is probably what i was seeing, only focused in alot closer.

It's interesting, i would be disapointed if it were put down to a disfunction of eye/brain.. but there is still so much room for discovering what they are and how they originate.
It still doesn't explain the apparitions of faces and people forming like impressions in the swirling smoke. It might sound odd seeing that while awake. They're very vague and quick to dissapear. they can easily pass without being entirely aware.

My left eye has them and it sucks because there's no cure for them. But they're no big deal anyway. I only notice them when I look at the sky or something very plain. And I actually have to be concious of them for me to notice them anyway.

I have them too, they are like worms floating in something. I can only see them when looking at the sky with the sun shining brightly.

Hallucinations often start with image substitution. Your eye being defective makes your brain work overtime to show your something tangible. It starts with a quick microsecond substitution derived from the actual image (floater, blood cell, etc) followed by imagination driven imagery (that supports the image substitution) that quickly fades away as the actual image no longer loosely matches (supports) the formed image. This happens most often when tired or on drugs.

A blob becomes a face (common substitution), the face becomes attached to a body (‘cause a floating face makes no sense-imagination driven hallucination) and the whole things disappears as the foundation of the image no longer matches the hallucination; the floater has moved or the triggering malfunction is no longer visible or the imagination formed image is now way beyond the foundation image that triggered the whole thing (The foundation image size does not match the imagined image). The whole image crumbles in a “phantasmagoric” fashion (using an imagination driven method that makes sense to you)

Floater are common for diabetics and so are, unfortunately, hallucinations and other odd brain dysfunctions that act on supporting (prolonging) the hallucinations. That combo equates to big problem.

Not to scare you or anything, you should have yourself checked for diabetes.

yeah, it's really different to what you might think in terms of diabetes or floaters. What i'm talking about is more lucid. It's funny, i guess some of it could be pt down to those descriptions but alot of the time they are more imaginal. Like when you know that there is a person behind the wall in front of you and you can feel their light presence so much there that you can almost see them. That is what is happening to me more often I've noticed. Today especially I am able to visualize the people in other places close by in a smokey light kind of manifestation. It looks very similar to how you iccuurs, described the brain associations with visuals and then identifying faces and people in place of them. It's becoming increasingly broader.

These things can be useful but be warned that they can bring you places you don't wan't to go. That's all I have to say about that.

I mostly see mine when I have just awakened.

I should have used "looked like dust strings"... I haven't seen mine in years (thank god they're gone)
