For those who have seen the 1979 movie, "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymor, you'll notice the large connection between the experience created by the main character, Richard Collier and WILD, DILD and LD in general. Even to this day, I'm facinated by the concepts introduced and the emotional storyline of the movie.

With that said, I've always wanted to create my own setting in my LD's with the ability of choosing who I share the experience with. I've even tried writing down a "To do" list on a slip of paper and placed it in my pocket hoping to retrieve it in my LDs. I had no success with the technique so far.

I stumbled upon a facinating book titled, "Astral Dynamics: A new approach to out of body experiences" by Robert Bruce. In the book, he explains a technique he uses for creating a Virtual Reality Realm:
Virtual Reality Projection
Here is a simple, reliable method, I have developed, to create your own personal realm: Get a poster of a pleasant scene, something bright and sunny. The bigger the better, but standard poster size will do. Hang it on the wall of the room you are going to project in, or another room close by. Get a small spotlight and set it so the poster is highlighted when the main light is turned off, a normal directional bedside lamp will do. Place the light under, or above, so the light spreads out over it giving a diffused effect illuminating it, a bit like a movie screen.

Entering your custom realm: When you project, go towards the poster, keeping your mind blank. Don't think about what you are doing, just gaze at it and move towards it. As you approach it in this way, your subconscious mind will be tricked into creating an astral realm exactly like the poster. Just move up to and into the poster. It is like stepping into another world. Everything in this world will be exactly like in the poster. It will appear to be a normal three dimensional world, an exact copy, indistinguishable from reality. [/b]
He describes how he stumbled upon this technique in his book. During an experience, Bruce tried walking through a wall during an OBE (or what he percieved as one) and found himself in a setting similar to the painting he had hung on the wall he walked through. Even the man and dog in the painting were seen during this experience.

Although I have mixed feelings about the validity of OBE's, this gave me a new idea for creating my LD setting. I have failed numerous times by simply tring to "imagine" the scenery and some of the people I would like to encounter. Recently, I had my best friend from my high school years pass away tragically and I've tried to have him visit with me a few times. I've encountered him only once during a non-LD.

Bruce's idea sounds like common sense. Although I always had the concept in the back of my mind, I never committed to have a photo nearby that would help me concentrate.
To customise this world: Cut and paste small pictures of things, or people, you want to find in this world with you when you enter it. Don't just stick a whole picture on the poster. Get scissors and cut around the object, or person. Try and find pictures that are approximately the same scale as the poster. If you cut out a small picture of someone, living or dead, your subconscious will create a thought form shell of them and they will be there waiting for you. This may be an excellent way of communicating with those that have died.

Spirit Communication: (I have a theory) The subconscious creates this thought form shell of a person. This shell can be animated by the perfect, detailed memory of your subconscious. But, if there is love there, between the projector and this created person, the spirit of this, diseased person, will be drawn to this scenario and will use this opportunity to communicate with the projector, by animating the created image of their body. I've got something new to try out. I hope this thread is helpful in your LD quest.
