The first time I had SP i couldn't move anything but my arms. There was a rope tied to the corner of my bed canopy of which i tried to pull myself up, so i could sit up. there was also an orange orb/ball on top of my canopy hanging kind of low. Another time i had SP the bed sheets were slowly being pulled down off the bed, I had a strong urge to get up and grab the blankets but i couldn't.( both of these accounts were before i knew anything about OBE's or much about SP.)
After educating myself about OBE's and SP I have had more pleasant SP (not scary.) i had the following two accounts. Not sure if they were real OBE's or not?
The first "OBE" experience i was lying on my back, i didnt notice anything in the room that was odd or out of place. but i couldnt move. I tried to wiggle my way to sitting up, which was very difficult (I was very heavy.) I then scooted to the edge of my bed, fell to my knees and tried hard to turn around and look at my body. I remember it being extremely difficult to turn my head and look, but when i did turn my head, i didnt see myself. I saw a heavy impression on my pillow (as if my body was invisible.) I then woke up.
The second "OBE" experience was pretty much the same except this time i notice someone standing at the corner of my bed. he appeared to be shy and was trying to hide behind my canopy post. Realizing that this was SP and he was probably just an illusion or entity, i asked him "help me." He didnt move or do anything so I did exactly what i did last time. The reason i question whether these were OBE's is because (1) I didnt see my physical body, and (2) i was able to speak? This leads me to my questions:
1. Should we be able to see our physical selves during OBE's? (one theory i have is that maby our subconscious "deletes" the viewing of our physical self's, since we are expecting not to see our bodies? But then why would some people see their bodies and others wouldn't.)
2. Its a common realization that dogs can sense things such as ghosts and a persons inner spirit (ie good or bad). Is it thus possible for animals (specifically dogs) to see us during OBE's? Do you have any experience with this?
3. During an OBE are we still getting sleep? Even though our physcial body is lying down, would we still feel restless after OBE'ing all night long?
4. During SP/OBE are our physical eyes ever open?
Your experiences sound like OBEs or altered states of some variation. In the early stages of one's explorations and development, moving freely out of body can be quite a challenge. As far as seeing your physical body, it is likely that the body that one observes sleeping in bed is actually a nonphysical representation of the body, like the energetic counterpart of the physical matter, and there is a wide range of different dimensions that one can project to and most will not contain this energetic counterpart, as this will only be perceived in realms closest to the physical dimension. Of course, subconscious manifestations are commonplace and belief plays a large role in this, so many sleeping body sightings (or lack thereof) may have something to do with this. Seeing or not seeing the body is not a make or break deal, as there are many factors at play and almost nothing is conclusive.
As far as speaking during OBEs, this is very possible. Of course, it is a nonphysical representation of the thoughts being expressed as audible words as perceived with the nonphysical senses, rather than the actual physical body speaking, so the experience is somewhat different than speaking and hearing one's voice in the physical world. The voice usually sounds distant and has an echo/reverb quality to it, perhaps almost artificial. I used to do this a lot before I dropped the habit and switched to sending thoughts.
As far as the eyes being opened during SP, this doesn't seem likely, as I've never experienced it in 15 years of SP episodes. I've always viewed the room through closed eyelids. It's actually nonphysical visual perception taking place, consciousness viewing a nonphysical version of the world, just slightly removed from the physical dimension, although it is also possible to perceive deeper levels of nonphysical reality from SP, commonly known as astral sight.
