I've thought of this before when reading about dream yoga. In a dream, everything and everyone is a part of you. If waking life is also a dream, then you and I and everyone are all part of that dream. Who or what is having that dream, I'm not sure. Could be the dream of our shared consciousness.... or something like that, if you believe in that sort of thing.
I've met people in my lucid dreams who also seemed lucid, aware that they are in my dream. So, if I were lucid in waking life, I would be like that self-aware dream character I met. But again, I don't know the answer to who or what is dreaming us. Maybe the analogy falls apart there, and waking reality isn't exactly like a dream, but shares dream qualities. This seems to be the case, considering waking life seems more stable and consistent than dream life. It's like it's a denser, more rigid, less flexible reality than dream reality. Maybe the "higher" reality dreaming this reality is more solid still. Or maybe it goes the other direction, and waking life is the dream our dreaming selves are having....
I feel like I've rambled and not really gotten anywhere.
