Yeah, the Mayans were really great astrologers for their age. But the end of the world theory had almost NIL to do with that astrological calendar. Basically, they had one calendar based on the moon and sun and whatnot, almost identical to our modern calendar and very accurate, and then they had a second, religous calendar based on nothing whatsoever that I'm aware of, and of a different lenght than the normal calendar. Then, they assumed that the last time the religous calendar and the normal one had a new year beginning on the same day, the world MUST have started. And the next time such a thing happens, the world will end. Yeah. Real scientific-like. Genius, truly. |

Idiot, the Mayans didn't say the world would end, it would simply be a new world age. They weren't talking about the end of the world... Why would the end of a calendar be the end of the world? I don't believe that. I do believe what the Hopi and the Mayans have in common is predicting a great upheaval during this time period, with Hopi prophecies being eerily accurate. |
|
ie. The end of the world as we know it - would be more accurate. |

OH. So the world isn't ENDING, they're just predicting that there will be a significant amount of change. And of course, what better way than to just slap it on some day that happens to align both your calendars? Sounds VERY reasonable to me. |

According to both the Hopi and the Mayans this would be a transition to an enlightened society. After a great purification, obviously (WWIII). |
|
Okay, you can go sign up for WWIII then. I'm going to McDonalds. |

Are you surprised to see the price of crude rising as demand outstrips supply? |

Never mind any dumb obscure prophecies, I figure with Captain War in the White House, the world will be over by 2012 anyway. Or at least swarmed with nuclear fallout mutants. |

To my mother, sister's, brother's, friend's, family, spiritual radicalists, and anyone else I forgot that still argue that the world will blow up in 2012: |

So many variables, so little knowledge.
Well, if Bush declares more wars, we may be lucky to make it to 2012... I see no big deal with that year, though. I'm more interested in 2039. |

Ha, guess what. |

Haha. I meant each of our worlds, not like we have a couple different ones going on at the same time. |

Seems to be alot of talk about the end of the world. There is statistical probability that the world will end in the next 2 centuries. If anyone wants more info on Eschatology (the study of the end of the world) heres a link that talks about different books that have been written on it. |

Yuh know, Nostradamus said the world would be over by now. It would be nice if the 2012 prophecy came true and the world faced a massive consciousness shift for the better, but I personally don't believe it will happen. There's been too many prophecies that just plain haven't come true for me to buy into this one. Does anyone remember the guy who said this same thing would happen in 1998? "But only if the world is ready," a convenient safeguard. |

Sheesh. I'm not exactly at the head of the Bush Parade, but saying something like "America is going to pay for its ignorance" is just a useless inflammatory remark that really states nothing. I may not agree with many of the policies or actions of the current administration, but I am an American, and I have to take offense to that. |
