help with seeing purple stuff

Hi, Im brand new here:) Im completely obsessed with reading and learning everything I can about meditation, astral travel, OBE, etc. Im trying so hard to have an OBE with no luck. So far, all I can do or see when Im meditating or relaxing before I try to travel or get out, is I see very bright purple fire-looking blobs that move around. The better I seem to relax and go inside myself, the more vivid they become. I keep thinking Im on to something but I can never move past this. Has anyone else seen this? Do you know what it means?

The only other experiences Ive had are this: The other night when I was meditating I heard, and kind of felt, someone whisper my name very loud and close to my ear. It shook me out of my relaxation. Also, a few months ago when I was trying really hard to have an OBE, I had a feeling of a very mean (person?)'s face right next to mine waiting for me and then all of a sudden I heard inside my head what sounded like a woman yell NO and heard like a clap at the same time, and again I was shaken out of my state. Am I crazy????

I would say, those were some intense hypnagogic hallucinations. Normally you get them as you falling asleep. But I guess, you can get them when you relaxed during meditation. I have heard that it's easy to fall asleep when meditating. So it's possible, you were close to falling asleep?

If you take a nap in the afternoon, it's likely to go straight to REM and be dreaming right away, without going through NREM stages. And you get the best HH before REM. So that's why I'm thinking it was HH.

HH can be all kinds of
auditory (you hear stuff like voices, chains rattle, metal, loud whistling, as if train was going by your ear, wind...)
tactile (feeling of being touched, as if you vere moving, rotating, falling, flying, being distorted, twisted...)
visual (see all kinds of things behind your closed eyelids, that can evolve into dream that you can enter and be in a lucid dream)

I don't know how to move past the purple blobs (HH) into OBE, but I know how to get into a lucid dream from there. But for that, you would have to fall asleep, best either as a nap, or if at night, after 4.5 hrs of sleep. The lucid dream you would get from this type of induction technique will be WILD. BTW, certain type of exit into WILD sounds close to way of exiting into OBE. So you may wanna try WILD and see. This type of exit is when you start seeing your room with your eyes closed.

So you basically do what you did, wait for the images to evolve into movies and then either wait for a dream to envelop you or enter it by wishing yourself inside it. As a kid I would have HH and HI while awake. Granted it was almost always at night, but I was definitely very awake. Sometimes, I would be paralyzed but awake at the same time. We have the potential to experience some very chaotic stuff. Accept whatever it may be and don't be afraid.

I think Gab is right. One thing many do not realize is that meditation can shift what form of brain wavves you experience. It is 100% possable to have vivid HH in meditation. In my opinion some forms of meditation are centered entirely around harnessing this fact. Take a look at the DVA page this links to, OK, nevr mind, I can not insert the link. Go to DVA forum, then Dream Yoga, then Visualization Traing. It will teach you what to do with the HH effect. I think developing your basic and intermediate meditation skills will help you reach OBE.

i get these purple blobs that you are talking about all the time. the more i focus on them and try to controll them the m0ore vivid they become, becoming faster, bigger and sometimes more colours. if you will them to move you can cotroll them.
i acctualy dont think that these are hypnogogic imagery, although this is what most people assume when they first hear about it.
when you get them strong enough if you open your eyes you can see them with your eyes open, it helps if the room is dark.

HH may not be a good term for it, because now I can see such things without going into a state of meditation. I think the two are closely related.
