I would say, those were some intense hypnagogic hallucinations. Normally you get them as you falling asleep. But I guess, you can get them when you relaxed during meditation. I have heard that it's easy to fall asleep when meditating. So it's possible, you were close to falling asleep?

If you take a nap in the afternoon, it's likely to go straight to REM and be dreaming right away, without going through NREM stages. And you get the best HH before REM. So that's why I'm thinking it was HH.

HH can be all kinds of
auditory (you hear stuff like voices, chains rattle, metal, loud whistling, as if train was going by your ear, wind...)
tactile (feeling of being touched, as if you vere moving, rotating, falling, flying, being distorted, twisted...)
visual (see all kinds of things behind your closed eyelids, that can evolve into dream that you can enter and be in a lucid dream)

I don't know how to move past the purple blobs (HH) into OBE, but I know how to get into a lucid dream from there. But for that, you would have to fall asleep, best either as a nap, or if at night, after 4.5 hrs of sleep. The lucid dream you would get from this type of induction technique will be WILD. BTW, certain type of exit into WILD sounds close to way of exiting into OBE. So you may wanna try WILD and see. This type of exit is when you start seeing your room with your eyes closed.

So you basically do what you did, wait for the images to evolve into movies and then either wait for a dream to envelop you or enter it by wishing yourself inside it.
