Am I OBE-ing to death?

Hey all.

Bit of a weird topic here. I'm not sure what I think about this one, and in fact it's only after last night that I gave this any consideration as being legitimate. I just want to hear what everyone else thinks, because I'm bloody curious.

I've never really tried to have OBE's before. Lucid dreaming has always been my goal, with WILD coming the closest I've ever been to leaving the body. But lately some weird stuff has been going on. More and more I find myself out of my body at night, then hearing a voice saying "You have to go back. It's not your time." and then I wake up.

The first few instances of this were most definitely dreams, so I wasn't worried. But last night (which you can read about here) I had a really for real OBE. As in, I'm convinced that I was physically separated from my body. It just kind of happened...I didn't try to cause it or anything. And again, a voice stopped me: "You have to go back. It's not your time." And then I got sucked back into my body and my eyes opened.

So my question: is it possible to OBE to death? I know this is hard to prove or disprove because we can't ask any dead people if this is how they died, but seriously, from what we know, does this seem like a possibility? Could that voice one of these times say "You can't go back. It's time now." and then that be the end, for realz? I mean, the first time I heard the voice it was just kind of weird. Now I kind of feel like I get so close to death every night that I'm on my way out and then come back in the morning.

I guess if I disappear and never come back, you guys will know what happened :P

If the voice ever does say it's your time to die, I'd imagine that would be one of the better ways to die - no disease, no pain, no suffering. I'd much prefer a voice telling me it's my time to die in the middle of the night to (skip these if you want to, I'm just listing ways to die) say, a car (or any vehicle) crash, getting shot, dying of a disease, drowning, being tortured to death, a random violent crime against me, a terrorist attack, a gas explosion, an earthquake, a flood, starvation/thirst, etc...
If that is the way you die, you have it much easier than most people.
If not, the worst that can happen is the fear you're currently experiencing.
Either way, if you worry about it all you're going to do is ruin your life with fear. I know that it's possible that New York City could be nuked by a terrorist or someone, but it isn't something I worry about. If I did, I would never get anywhere.
Someone else on the forum may give you advice on how to make it stop, or that it isn't possible (to die that way), but I'm telling you now that it isn't something to worry about.

heh, good point.

But really I'm not worried about it...death doesn't scare me at all, I just had never considered the possibility that one could OBE to the extent that he permanently and completely separates himself from his body.

This could also be a message to you about not being ready to have OBEs yet, not necessarily about dying. Its pretty much impossible to actually die from OBE or AP, since you're connected by a golden chord to your physical body during any projection. From everything I've read, and from what experienced OBE people say, there isn't any way to totally separate your consciousness from your body to the point of death. My interpretation of this message is that this spirit guide or entity is telling you that its not the right time for you to OBE yet. Or that you're not ready to experience the OBE realm yet. I often attempt OBEs, but never fully project, and part of it for me feels like a force is preventing me from OBE-ing fully.

It can seem surprising or scary since its a totally different experience for people that havn't done it before, but its a common myth that people think they can OBE to death. It actually stops and hinders their ability to OBE, since they're afraid they'll actually die when they project/separate.

But, you should also done some reading/researching on the internet. Robert Bruce has a treatise out on OBE-ing and AP, and there are various sources you can go to for info. If you think it could be some type of spirit guide, you could ask it/put your intent out to see why its telling you that. Or to put an intent out to see why you're being told that.

He did say that he wasn't trying to have an OBE. I'm not sure why he would be pulled out of his body just to be told that he shouldn't be out of his body - night after night after night!
That would be like somebody pushing you onto a train, and then saying "Why are you in that train!? You shouldn't be in that train, your train comes later!!"

There are some people that have an unconscious or natural tendency to OBE without intending to, as you just described. It sounds like LiveInTheDream has uncontrolled OBEs without intending to and without any strong desire, and is asking about this voice he hears. I don't mean to come off saying he should definitely pursue OBEs, but I just thought that I'd provide some info and my own opinion in case it applies to his situation. It might be kind of rare, but I've heard of cases where people just OBE for no apparent reason and have confusing and/or disorientating experiences because they don't have control over it.

hmm...well, I'm not an OBE expert, so I don't know exactly what it takes to control OBE's, but if it's anything like lucid dream control, I doubt I'd struggle too much with it. Dream control is my strongest point in LDing; if I can get even half-lucid, I can do anything I want to without struggles. What say you? Is OBE control vastly different from LD control?

Well, what do you expect, under any circumstances?

Let me ask you, where do you think the voice is coming from?

I don't know terribly much abot OBE's, but they seem pretty safe.

I think, bottom line, when your death decides it's time, it's time, and that's far out of your control, so don't worry about it.
