      What technique did i use

So last night before going to bed i said a mantra once and in the middle of my dream i became lucid. i did the nose reality check and the hand reality check but for some reason both of them failed but i still knew i was dreaming. it didn't last long because it was my first induced lucid dream and i got too excited on accident but what technique is this. I thought it would be a MILD because i used a mantra to become lucid but i read that a MILD is using a mantra to do a reality check in my dream but that didn't happen.

I think you could call it a MILD or a DILD, probably leaning more towards DILD because you said your mantra once instead of repeating and trying to fall asleep to it.

More importantly, though -- Does it really matter? You shouldn't get too caught up in terminology and limits of specific techniques: you did something that got you a lucid dream, try to find out why, and then do it again. You'll often find a lot of different variations/definitions for the popular techniques, so beyond a basic descriptive level, the name of a technique doesn't matter that much. The most important thing is to figure out what works for you, whatever name you give it.

I guess your right about the DILD because it is a dream induced lucid dream. it never said i had to reality check to DILD but like i said, after i was sure i was dreaming i tried two reality checks and they both didn't work. Can you help me with that?

I would suggest trying different reality check such as looking at a digital clock or flicking a light switch.

Sounds like MILD to me, because you used a mantra, and did RCs in the dream. Even though they didn't work, you still got lucid, which was the ultimate goal. That's a MILD, my friend.

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.
