I was reading in a psychology book about how we can sometimes set ourselves up for failure due to there being a psychological pay-off from failure: we may experience frustration, anger, sadness etc and we unconsciously follow behaviour that leads to us feeling these emotions again. I've been thinking that this could apply to lucid dreaming. I read that you can prevent this tendency by making a large list of benefits that overpower the negative beliefs and tendencies.

I would like people to contribute here and make this a comprehensive list of the benefits of lucid dreaming. The benefits added can be sensible, silly, far out, extreme etc.

If people want to list fantasy things on their "to do" list ("using alien weapons", for example) that will be good to but I'd prefer it if the list didn't get dominated by these type of goals.
