Most lucid dreaming happens in a theta wave twilight state. Is this just a fact of where the mind is once you realize you're dreaming, or can you induce it from tracks. And if you can induce it, should it be played before or during sleep?

I would go with right before going to sleep to get your mind more "in the zone." I believe the theta stage is where most lucid dreaming and REM sleep occurs. By playing binaurals (though I prefer isochronics), the brain is already in the dreaming sort of frequency, and may lead to longer, more vivid dreams, and may also help to attain lucidity. Dunno about playing them as you sleep, though.
Playing them as you sleep is the way to go in my experience. I don't think it's healthy all the time, but it's good for naps.
They can be played before, and during sleep.
What is better, is to induce a profound altered state of consciousness. Used while meditating one can enter a theta state with full hemispheric synchronization, and from that altered state of point consciousness one can do whatever one intents to, which could be lucid dreaming, or something "further".
Well since you brought it up, what exactly does hemispheric syncing do? Because there is also I track for that I can meditate on. And one for relaxing. And for Alpha waves, and Delta. I got a whole arsenal of em.
Well I took mario's advice and checked out some iso-tones. This one I found looked very interesting. You use it after a WBTB, and it is forty minutes long, but starts with 20 minutes of silence, in whcich time the subject should already be asleep. In then shifts brainwaves to make you lucid.

Also: (and this might belong in the "beyond dreaming-section") the "famous" books by Michael Newton : "Journey of souls," "Destiny of souls" and think he wrote a few more - summons up a lifetime of work with using "Hypnotherapy" - which is a hypnosis that brings the client in a deep Theta-state - from here the "practicioner" can make the client tell things about the life they have between lifes - very interesting.
Don't want to make this part of the discussion, but this is just another example of what Theta-waves could do for you.
Oh I don't doubt it, because in just thirty minutes of filtered theta waves, I thought about all kinds of stuff I never would have thought of otherwise. I remembered a dream I had when I was six. SIX. I don't doubt at all it could be used for something like that, assuming it exists.
