      Post Help me!!

ok so last nite during part of my dream i was lucid, completely aware i was dreaming. I was riding in the car with my dad and i was trying to get him to change into someone else. Then i was walking around my school trying to get that same person to appear but he never did. How come I cant get him in my dream?

Learning dream control takes time. If you're not having much success with one goal, set it aside, and work on something else. If you try something a lot and keep failing, the failures will create harmful negative reinforcement, but if you try something else and succeed, that will help you find success in many things in the long run.

There is a radio program out there on the 'net somewhere (I forget where I got it from) that is an interview with LaBerge, and he talks about that specific issue.

In it he said that if you want someone to appear, you need to do it in a way that they would normally appear in waking life. So instead of just trying to get the person to appear out of thin air, try instead to have them show up from a logical waking context. So, if you are having a dream where you are at school and this person you want to appear might be in a certain classroom in waking life, go into the classroom and before/as you open the door tell yourself that that person will be in that room when you open the door.

I have never experienced this first hand, but that was the gist of what he said.

It depends really, I always have full control without trying. The key is not to try

I have yet to have an LD, but I read a very interesting post by someone who claimed that the only thing hindering complete dream control is yourself. It was a very long post, but the general idea was that if you convince yourself you can summon him out of thin air, then you will be able to. If not, I think Val's technique would be easier.

I am pretty sure this is true.

What works really well for me is just to announce in my dream what I want: "I would like so-and-so to walk through that door."

For me, it works wonders to simply imagine that the person will be around the corner, or behind a door, or simply behind me when I turn around. No need to place them in a special situation or place. But sometimes it takes me 3 or 4 LDs to summon a person efectively. Sometimes the person is a little different than in waking life, but it works very well. The key is believing. If you believe you can do it, you can.

However, for a novice LDer, I wouldn't recommend to try this. I consider it a bit advanced. I would start with increasing lucidity and stabilizing the dream first. That's because without stability and adequate levels of lucidity, summoning a person will be more difficult and frustrating. In order to run, one must first walk with ease.
Good luck and DON'T GIVE UP!

Everyone has different methods for dream control. Personally, I can just focus/will things to occur (flight, summoning, teleportation, shapeshifting)
The burden of proof lies with the one making the claim

Becoming frustrated that you can't control something often causes the dream to take things into its own hands. Instead of "trying" to make the person appear, "expect" them to appear. For instance, if you're going over to your friend's house and you ring the doorbell, you know they'll answer the door. Use the same principal in your dreams. Turning around and expecting something to be behind you works well, for me at least.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
