Don't give up. I had my doubts, but as soon as I forgot about it I had my first. You can give up, or you can devote a small amount of your mind to thinking about it and reclaim the 1/3 of your life you spend sleeping.

Eh, I don't feel that way. I mean, Laberge is just the guy who's done most of the scientific research on LD. Who else are people going to talk about when they want to talk about when they want to discuss the scientific side? Plus, his main technique, MILD, really seems to work for a LOT of people, so it makes sense his name comes up often.
If it's true, then I hope the forum owners are getting a cut! LOL. But, somehow I feel they maintain this place just out of their love of LDing and wanting people to have a free place to learn and talk.
Lucid dreaming is a skill that can be learned by anyone. Like any other skill it takes time and a lot of practice to master.
No one expects you to be an expert over night.
As for Stephens book, I think it deserves all the promotion it gets. Its an amazing book that everyone that is interested in Lucid dreaming should have.
Is Lucid Dreaming even real?
Ok, I just woke up and I honestly did a RC when I read this, lol. Thought I was dreaming.
Lucid dreaming is real alright :p
What's questionable imo are astral projections and OBE's, or they are a hoax or they are just lucid dreams with a different type of awareness.
I had many lucid dreams (check my signature) and never even bought his book- all you need are the tutorials on this site and some willpower.
Otherwise, would you find it suspicious if einstein kept getting mentioned in physics forums?
As for the question "is lucid dreaming even real?", I totally get the validity of this question, though unlike religion/faith where the entire notion lies in belief, here it's different because I experience lucid dreams regularly, I walk through streets of vivid color and marvel on the deep HDTV-like vividness, and how my mind created it all. People who have experienced at least one lucid dream will all tell you that it's real.
Definitely, the names "astral projections"/"OBE's" all step from lack of proper understanding regarding what is experienced by the dreamer, some misinterpret false awakenings as true out of body experiences.Quote:

Well, I was just putting that out there. I have had LDs without reading the book. But seriously,
"As for Stephens book, I think it deserves all the promotion it gets. Its an amazing book that everyone that is interested in Lucid dreaming should have."
...anyone????
And PLEASE dont compare this to religion, cause thats an arguement no one can win. I know a handful of people who believe in some form of evidence... but whatever.
Our knowledge of dreaming has come a long ways since ETWOLD came out in 1991. You can find pretty much all the info contained in the book on Dreamviews, and much much more on the forums. Everything builds off of LaBerge's book. I think it's a good book to be familiar with, if only to see where this all came from (obviously people have been LDing a long time and LaBerge wasn't the first to do it.... But it's only recently that people have begun scientifically looking at it).
A lot of people (including many here on the forum) are now expanding on our knowledge of dreams and exploring new possibilities. There's a lot more out there now, but ETWOLD is a good place to start.
Obviously, you don't need to read the book to have LDs. Like I said, all the info in the book can easily be found here on DV.
I have no idea why you're comparing this to religion. Your second statement doesn't really make sense.
And the fact that people learn better when something is explained to them in two different ways.
I'd have to sort of disagree with the terms 'train' and 'learn' It's not something I'd say you can learn. Condition is a better word for it. Getting a new set of habits (like Reality checks and keeping that ever so important dream journal) and changing your sleeping schedule around a little bit.
There are time when I've worked for months at it and didn't have any luck, then I tried a new 'method' and had success on the first try.
Experiment with lots of different stuff, try all the techniques that you can, and keep at it! You'll eventually stumble through that lucid door!
