ADHD and probablity of lucidity

So I was talking to my girlfriend about the Lucid Dreaming process, and she said that it sounded amazing to do. I knew right away that she may lack the commitment to really get down and train to attain these dreams, but I continued to describe it to her. I think it's because she really didn't grasp the full effect of what Lucid Dreams are.

Recently, I pushed her to really try to do it, because she tells me how she often times tells herself to wake up out of bad dreams if she does not like what they're doing. I told her that instead of telling herself to wake up, stay conscious. She tried this today, and I believe it worked! She also seems like she has the potential to have incredible control; her dream started to fade when she be came conscious, and she remembered what I told her: I told her to tell it to brighten, jump up and down, or rub her hands together. I'm not quite sure what she did, but when it started to go black, she did something to make it become vivid again. When this happened, she got really excited and woke up.

thing is, the reason I'm amazed by her almost "natural ability" is because she has ADHD. It's pretty bad; not always hyper, but her mind is RAPID FIRE. Oh man. She recalls almost ALL her dreams, 2-3 a night. And they're VERY vivid...some of them. So right there, I knew that she is elgible to have a fairly easy Lucid Dream, and it seems I was right!

so, do you think that ADHD has any effect on becoming Lucid?

I have ADHD and my recall and vividness are both horse's piss, so no.

Edit: Actually I should clarify; I'm what would previously have been called "ADD". I'm not particularly hyperactive, I'm mainly just completely lacking in ooh that's an interesting looking moth ... Uh, yeah, I'm completely lacking in whatever it was I was talking about. This aspect of ADHD is correlated with abnormally low brainwaves. Presumably the hyperactive aspect is correlated with abnormally high brainwaves, so it sounds to me as though it would be very handy for lucidity. The higher brainwaves would tend to explain frequent nightmares, too.

I think it's along the lines of co-relation does not imply causation.

In other words, her ADHD most likely leads to X. Then, X helps her get lucid.

For example, her ADHD might improve her familiarity with visualization and then, though that, help her realize when she is in a dream.

people usually young children have sleep disorders involving ADHD and i think it causes insomniac.

if she has ADHD (recent research says its over-diagnosed for ppl under 25) then i would say she is lucky to be a natural LDer because attention and motivation is a requirement for this skill especially for ppl who aren't natural.

she may just be one of those "easily-hypnotized" ppl who seems to be almost always atleast partly lucid. hypnotism doesn't seem to be a learnable skill like lucid dreaming so those who have it would just be lucky.

Interesting theory.
I don't know what I "officially" have. My pdoc doesn't like using labels and focuses on symptoms instead.
My body doesn't tend to be hyper but my brain seems to be as if on constant high doses of speed lol.
I've always had superb dream recall (recalling anywhere from 2-6 dreams a night) and all of them are vivid. Many of them are what most people would consider "nightmares" but for me it's just adventure :)
Recent stress has reduced my recall somewhat.
I've never been good at Lucid Dreaming. I see waking life through the eyes of everyone and everything. My dreams mostly often occur in 3rd person and a lot of times I'm not even myself.

Perhaps personality type (introvert/extrovert etc) should be figured in with your theory?

Quite possibly. I just thought it was an interesting theory; I don't really believe one way or another. I'm not quite sure 100% what she has (or is diagnosed with) but her mind is DEFINITELY rapid fire, I can tell you that much. Perhaps she's just a potential "natural" LDer that has yet to be unleashed!

.....sure seems like it. I'm trying so hard to get her to stick with it! She didn't do ANYTHING to get to the point she is now, while others have to seriously train to get there. Definitely a talent!

She's lucky though. Sounds like she's been CONVERTED...
