      Talking to yourself actually works

Simply telling yourself that you are going to have a lucid dream really actually works :O Whether its more of a plasibo effect where as I think it will work, so I remember about it and it does, im not too sure about. Either way, its awesome. Try it. If you cant have a lucid dream, or are in a dry spell, try sitting up in bed and simply saying, outloud, "I am going to have a lucid dream. I will remember this dream in its entirety" or something along those lines. You might be really surprised..

i might try this in preparation for tonights WILD, do you suggest out loud or internal dialogue as well? I remember my parents telling me when i was a kid that if i thought 'im not going to have a migraine' (i used to get them alot) then id be less likely to! Same with alot of things.. i reckon your onto something. The power of suggestion maybe.

The power of suggestion is a lot stronger than people think.

I usually just do strong, clear, outloud dialogue, but whatever works for you. I think that actually physically saying it creates a different way of remembering something than just trying to remember something that you have only thought about.

Yes I talk to myself inside my head all the times before going to sleep and it works well.

There is a myth out there that you should not talk to yourself when attempting to WILD which is just a myth.

I have been a self talker for a year and no I haven't used it to incubate lucid dreaming but it has gotten some of the 'undersirable' talk about people and they got in the dream. Or I may have touched on the past that day and dreamed it that night. Problem is that it only appears in one dream and repetition during waking up is required I think and that's if you can do it..'softly' without waking the other person up....

I haven't been able to induce a lucid dream through autosuggestion, but I have had great results using it to set the subject matter for upcoming dreams. My only problems being that it seems to only work ~50% of the time, and that I need to keep my suggestions as general as possible.

"I'm dreaming about _______" seems to work best for me. I repeat that to myself (non-verbally) as I'm falling asleep. The trick then is to constantly dream about one of your dream signs that you're familiar with and are trained to RC whenever you see it. I'm not quite that far yet, but I feel like I'm getting there.

It's a common way of inducing lucid dreaming, also called "autosuggestion". It works for me, but not all that well. It improves my recall though.
