Just keep at it, make the reality check sincere and plentiful, I've missed so many chances of becoming lucid, there are even a couple threads dedicated to it if I'm not mistaken.

      Practice practice practice!

I'd say you don't need help. I had similar experiences before I ever had a LD. You need to realize that what you experienced is a sign on the road to lucidity that is telling you that you are getting very close to your goal.

RC's are a useful tool but they aren't required to have LD's.

You almost had a LD without even doing a RC. If you are like me, you will remember to someday but when it happens then you will realize that all the RC does is verify what you were already thinking... which is "oh SH*T! I think I'm Lucid!"

wow that was a really good way to put it!
but I'd say it would only be right half the time - for example people decide to do RC's everytime they wake just in case if it's a FA. dream signs is another one too.

All the lucids i've had were because I knew I was dreaming, not because I randomly did a RC :/,

i was every close yet again last night! .. im remembering more and more about my dreams and their seeming real, im starting to have a bit more control over what happens.. so thats 2 nights and 2 dreams that i remembered fairly well! just it to go a little further.. so that i can have full control over what i do in my dreams and then its time to do some of my LD goals! WOOT!

RCs only do me good when I need final confirmation that I'm dreaming after I'm a little suspcious. As soon as I do an RC I then know without a doubt that I'm dreaming as most of the time the dream world looks as lifelike as real life.

It came in handy last night two nights ago before I jumped out of my bedroom window. I just had to be sure.

So no, RCS aren't exactly a gateway to an LD but rather a tool to help you realise it better. Well, that's what it's like for me anyway.

      Good luck.
