BaKo's Autosuggestion Tutorial - Wake Up After Your Dreams
Why I made this tutorial
I made this tutorial for people who want to use autosuggestion to wake up after dreams and be able to do a WBTB or WILD without having to set an alarm clock, which could potentially awake them when they're not even in REM. The beauty of this method is that it works without you doing anything (after you use the technique once) and you awake RIGHT after a dream when you were just in REM, not when you were in deep sleep or another sleep state. Using this technique you can multiply your chances of having a successful lucid dream in the morning!
What is autosuggestion
Autosuggestion is merely having your subconscious focus on certain ideas in order to change its daily functioning. Pretty much you just hint at your subconscious that you want to wake up after dreams. Most people, including myself when I first heard it, are very hesitant to believe this. While most people believe your subconscious is there, the idea of communicating with it is far-fetched to many. However, since your subconscious is always there, listening and observing, if you are in the right state of mind you can influence what your subconscious is observing and subtly program it to do something through repetition and focused intent. Don't believe me? I don't blame you. But don't say it doesn't work until you actually give it a shot.
Why autosuggestion fails for many people.
Many people believe they can just start thinking "I'm going to wake up after every dream" while watching TV or doing any other normal activity and actually program their subconscious. While your subconscious is indeed picking up on these thoughts, its also focused on other things, like your surroundings, the TV, the activity your doing, noise distractions, etc. So for autosuggestion to truly be effective, you have to be relaxed, have no distractions (preferably in a silent environment - use headphones to block out noise if you'd like), and be in a slight trance where you don't pay much attention to your body anymore, so all your focus goes to your affirmations. So lets get started.
Step 1 - Focus on Breathing
First lay down in bed on your back. Make sure you have very little distractions, such as noise or light. Also make sure your not stressed out about a big game or a test, because that will draw a lot of the subconscious' focus away from your goal. Next focus all your attention on your breathing. Picture the air you breathe is blue, and follow it as you breathe it in and it goes throughout your body. When you exhale, picture the air as gray, showing that your body got rid of any bad energy/waste. Do this for 30 breaths, or however long it takes you to start feeling relaxed.
Step 2 - Lose bodily awareness
Now, have you ever had a lead blanket laid on you, maybe when you got an x-ray? Do you remember how heavy it felt? Imagine, starting from your feet, up your legs, over your stomach, chest, arms, neck, then face, that a thick, warm, heavy blanket is being laid on each part. Feel its heaviness and its warmth go over your whole body. As you do so you should start to feel deeply relaxed and you should begin to lose awareness of your body. Even if you are still aware of your body, don't fret, the technique can still work.
Step 3 - Further Relaxation
Next picture, that at the back of your neck, there is a thick electrical cord extending from your brain down your neck. Below your neck, picture the cord breaking up into smaller cords, then even smaller cords, covering your whole body in a network of electrical cords. Now, picture a switch, to turn the electricity off, on each of the following parts of your body: ankle, knee, hip, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and neck. One by one, starting from your ankle, turn the switch off and feel the deep relaxation in the part of your body that you just "turned off". While this is merely a visualization, since your subconscious is so ingrained with the concepts of electricity and switches turning things off, it will realize what you are trying to imply and "turn off", or further relax, the part of your body that you are "turning off".
Step 4 - Program your subconscious
Now focus your attention on your thoughts. Clear your mind of any passing thoughts or distractions, and bring to mind your affirmation: "I will wake up after every dream.". Repeat this over and over, but don't just simply say it; Make sure your subconscious understands thoroughly what this phrase means by thinking of what it means, and thinking of you actually waking up after a dream ends. Repeat this for as long as you feel necessary for your subconscious to understand it (for me I say it about 20 times), then roll over and go to sleep. Since your subconscious and mind are relaxed and have no distractions to focus on, all of its focus will go to your affirmation and it will effectively take note of it, therefore "programming" your subconscious to listen and obey your affirmation.
Step 5 - Enjoy the results
Now in the morning, if this went correctly, you should wake up earlier than usual and emerge straight from a dream! Jot down your dream in your dream journal to improve your recall, and get right into your LD technique! With this amazing tool you will no doubt highly increase your chances of having a lucid dream. Sweet dreams
