      Improving Reality Checks?

I have a possible tip with improving reality checks:

What if not only we just perform reality checks and make a sense of meaning out of it, but we use it in a specific enviorment where we could have a dream.

For example, in my boring geometery class, I might just be wishing I was dreaming so I could just fly away. I might do a reality check only to find out that I'm awake.
I think it would be more effective to make it a habit to do a reality check everytime I acknowledge the fact that I'm in that class. So basically think, 'I'm in geometery, do a reality check' and hopefully it will become an automatic thought and eventually when I have a dream that I'm in the class, I should remember automatically, to do a reality check.

My point: Choose an enviorment to specifically perform reality checks. Sure it's enough to make the check meaningful, but to choose it in a specific enviorment should increase your chances at a DILD

I will only limit my enviorments (you can have more than 1), but so only that it doesn't lose it's meaning where I just do it everywhere.

So what do you guys think?

So what happens when you have a dream where you're not in that environment?

Why would we gain anything from limiting the number of places in which we do reality checks? A better goal would be to make reality checks an "automatic thought" no matter where you are or what you're doing - which is the goal of traditional reality checking.

Yeah, DuB is right, but I understand what you mean. I was thinking something similar to that. See, my dreamsign is dreaming in my school in the same three areas, so basically your theory would be like to reality check in those three areas, that way when i AM dreaming about it, I will be able to DILD.

Good theory, but it woud just be all around more conveniant to make it a habit of reality checking anywhere.

Some RC tutorials/explanations suggest doing just that, but with a common environmental factor such as being in a doorway (and, in case there are no doorways through which to walk, when there are no doors nearby). A specific environment, however, would likely be too restrictive.

Yup! My idea ! It's mine!..LOL...Kidding...I din't copyright it so..... But it's true I thought of this and used it in a LD environment of my choice. It's another induced dreamsign idea where you recognize and you do a check. You can choose a beautiful place for your LD...the list is endless.

i appreciate your replies. i think it just needs more detail like i would combine this with one of my prior tips such as a random event or something you know to expect in the future in that particular enviorment.

the whole thing with making reality checks a habit, is just a lil hard for me to do. i just thought it wuld be easier if i would go this way. ofcourse i do try to make it a habit to perform reality checks however i like the doorway idea becuase of it being a specific, yet common enviorment.

      so yeah...

      i have an idea

I know i posted these ideas prior to this post but they were seperate. So I thought they would both help to improve DILD if i just brought them together.

This involves doing specific reality checks and comprehending certain events to help you become aware of it in your dreams. Anyways...

      ---

Is there something you look forward to within the week or so that you tend to think about occasionally throughout the day such as awaiting test results, a concert, or perhaps a date this weekend? When ever you think about these kinds of thoughts, perform a reality-check especially at the time of planning because you will more than likely have a dream about it whether you even remember it or not. Trust me, it should be obvious.

If you know someone that knows you lucid dream, you can come out and say "I look forward to lucid dreaming this weekend" and mean it. Pay attention to their reaction even if it's just "okay... you're pretty fncking weird man". It may actually help to come up with a specific lucid dream date for the weekend that you plan at the beginning of the week so that you have something to look forward to as time elapses, so therefore, you may just have a dream about it before the dream date actually comes!

      ---

Reality checks can be done in specific enviorments such as your boring math class or whatever. By acknowleging the fact that you're in your chosen enviorment, you need to get in the habit to perform a reality check so that eventually when you have a dream about your chosen enviorment, you will automatically remember to do the reality-check. Do this (may i stress the following word) especially when something is coming up such as a math test which may be critical to your grade. As mentioned earlier, you will more than likely have a dream about an important part of your life like the important test.

My Point: Pick a specific enviorment to perform reality checks. It's okay to do it other times, as long as this enviorment doesn't lose it's significant value. Keep that in mind because ofcourse people are going to say "it's important that it's just something you do as a habit" which I do not disagree at all, however I just think it would help to do this enviorment idea. Also if something important comes up. Yes it is okay to make reality checks a normal time to time habit, but just at the least take this idea into consideration.

Choosing an Enviorment: Mine would be my classes, yours could be at work or at home, the bathroom, what ever. If you have a traveling job (as in around the city), you can still do this regardless of location because you will still be at work (atleast that's my theory). Some people would rather choose something as simple as a doorway which I find interesting because it is a very common place and not just somewhere you go to twice a week or once a day or what ever.

To conclude: I hope I didn't take anyones idea. If you feel this has taken place, let me know so that I won't look like a jackass and I will be more than happy to give credit to them. If I discover something I could add, I will to help keep spamming to a minimum. Not saying this is spam but I don't want to have a million threads in a row under my name.

I would really appreciate responses to this forum I don't care if you like it or not because atleast if you didn't like it, I know I need to improve on something.

      SO yeah thanx... i guess...

But do you think this habit will get pass the deep sleep stages of 3 and 4 where the brain is 'dead'? I have an idea you may want to try. Besides doing this during the day, also do this routine of place checking in your head after stage 4 sleep which is stage 2 right before REM. I think there is a 80% chance the dream will follow up to your routine. But you'd need to find out your REM periods first http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=66770 but it's worth the effort to know your REM periods.

. Your ideas are very similar to mine so it would be a waste if it dosen't get through the stage 3 and 4 killers...
