      Lucid for a second

This morning after hitting the snooze, I had my first dream that I remember in detail. I wont go over it, as it was boring, but I was at a doctor's office, paying the bill and I remember thinking "this is a dream, so the insurance isn't going to cover it". (Then I wrote a giant 'publisher's clearing house sized check, lol). But that was it for lucidity, before and after that one moment, I wasn't lucid. I guess its progress, though, because I've been trying to remember dreams all week and this is the first one I remembered in detail.

that actually sounds to me like one of those dreams where you are lucid in the dream, but you aren't actually lucid. Unless you are saying you had a reason to remark about the bill not being covered by insurance, which is something someone lucid probably wouldn't waste time doing in a LD Unless I am interpreting it wrong, since like you said you didn't add a lot of detail

Congrats though, especially on getting the recall there. And even if you weren't lucid, this was definitely a big leap in the right direction!

Yeah, keeping the journal is helping. I remember so many things now that Im making an effort, but no LD's. I don't care, its cool remembering dreams for the first time in a long time.

Awesome! Yeah, I loved dreaming even before I had my first LD, they are way fun

It sounds like it's early for you to be finding dream signs, but have you been doing reality checks at all? Those definitely help out. You could also try some foods that are known around the forum for helping increase dream vividness, which should help you with your recall. Try eating:

      bananas
      dark chocolate
      apple juice
      peanut butter
      most berries (http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=61014)

You can check out that area of the forums for yourself, and see what you think will help increase vividness. http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...splay.php?f=44

I've heard of dark chocolate and peanut butter, but apple juice is a new one for me.

And yeah, it sounds like a regular dream that was based around lucid dreams. I hate those, since lucid dreams seem so normal at the second in the dream, but you have no control.

I know I wasn't lucid because there were so many places I could have done a reality check and I failed. First, I was at the doctor because my daughter had a huge gash in her shoulder. HUGE. Normally, you'd be in an ambulance for that. (fail.) Second, I was trying to stitch her up at home and she wouldn't let me. (another fail) Third, they closed her up without anesthesia and Im standing there watching, being upset with the docs for not using any anesthesia. (fail, again) Fourth, they put a giant hose in her leg and Im wondering why they would be doing that but didn't really think it all that unusual. (big fail). The only thing I questioned was that I couldn't bill the insurance for a doctor visit from a dream, but that seemed totally normal, too. Then there was the giant check that I miraculously pulled out of my little bag, lol. I guess I suck at reality checking thus far. Oh, well, just a n00b, I'll keep trying.

      Ha, that sounds funny. XD

Well, at least you had an inkling you were dreaming! That's a great start! Chances are, now that you were lucid once, you'll become lucid again (and sooner!). All you have to do is catch yourself.

Well, just because you do a reality check doesn't necessarily mean that you will become lucid either! Sometimes they fail, or they are just a habit and a positive RC just won't cue you anyways. But you are definitely on the right track realizing how ridiculous the dreams can be and noting that to yourself. Just get into the habit of RCing whenever you find yourself in situations that are odd, or awkward, or whatever. In RL, ask yourself as often as possible if everything is logical. Your dream actually seems to have proceeded in a very logical manner, with only a few key things distinguishing them from reality. Learn to RC when things don't make sense (and every time you see a clock, writing, think or speak of dreams, think the word 'lucid', wake up, use a light switch, etc. just to get into the habit), and you'll be going lucid in no time!

Yea these forums are pretty educational! I just read the one about apple juice, which seems to have the most scientific backing of any that I've seen. Good to know, I don't have to keep eating all that unnecessary PB and risking gaining weight when I can just drink apple juice and be scientifically "guaranteed" success haha Placebos are pretty cool, though

Ugh those lucid-but-not-actually dreams are annoying

I've been in the mood for apple juice lately anyway.

Haha I'm gonna be drinking quite a lot now.

Surely just the action and thought of eating a food that is said to increase your dream vividness (even if its not true), will increase your mind's perception of 'certain food= increased vividness'. This will make the mind think that it should been having more vivid dreams. And as your mind controls how vivid your dreams are in the first place, just the simple thought will increase dream vividness.

Much like when you're young and your parents give you what they say is a sleeping pill, but it isn't, and yet you start to feel more sleepy, just with the thought that you took a sleeping pill.

Well yea, that's called the placebo effect but a number of these foods are also known for helping with neurotransmitters, chemical molecules that are known to help dream vividness, blah blah blah. I don't think you can necessarily duplicate that increase in chemicals simply by wanting to, not to the same degree unless I see a study done. Either way, scientifically it's a win, and placebo-ally it's a win. I just got an amazingly vivid lucid after drinking a cup of apple juice So I don't care why it's a win, it is!!! The way I look at it, I became lucid and the dreams were crazy vivid. So who cares why

Lucky it works for some... ^^

Thanks for the scientific term though. Its a lot easier to say, 'The Placebo Effect', rather than having to explain all that again .
