Staring through your eyelids? Like picturing what you would see if they were open?

      Hmm.

Try this: Look into the distant area and focus on something. Keep that focus. Now closely bring a book into your field of vision but negate any urge to bring it into focus. Observe the object as much as you wish. This is, effectively, what you want to achieve with your eyes closed. If you can keep that focus, then close your eyes and you'll see depth in the darkness that you may have not seen before. The book, in this case, would be your eyelids.

Once you have mastered this, then try to project yourself through the darkness. If done correctly, it'll be like observing one of those retro star screen savers. It'll require conscious effort initially to maintain the 'forward motion', but if you relax and let it flow then it shall continue with little or no effort. If you begin the visualisations now, and try to remain aware and relaxably concentrated for enough time, then you'll feel the shift in mind state begin.

Yes Exactly that. With enough concentration you can "see through" your closed eyelids.
