      Such a struggle..

It seems I can never find a restful state of mind when I lay down for bed. Life is just so stressing, so distracting, so tiring. I want so badly to escape to my dreams for my sleep, but I never get lucid and can't even remember them lately. I'm having a rough time to say the least, not only in dreaming, but in life. Any suggestions?

Don't let them get your dreams. Your stress eats at you enough during the day. At night, set aside 15-30 minutes before bed to meditate. You don't need to do any spectacular method. Just relax, and let your stress melt off until tomorrow.

Also, you should learn to value life. If you want, tear apart what is making you stressful. If you are doing all that you can to take care of what is stressing you, then don't worry so much. If you are in debt, but have a job and are making payments on time, you shouldn't worry about the debt. If your spouse has cancer, and you are treasuring each moment with her, then don't feel guilty about her illness (you can feel sad, but not guilty). Do all you can; that's all you can do.

But try meditating, even if you are already laying in bed (it doesn't really matter if you are in lotus or not). It really does help.

I completely agree with Abra. Meditating definitely helped me out with a lot of things, including life itself. there's no point in stressing out 24/7, at least give yourself some peace some of the time by just relaxing. even if it's only for a few minutes, those few minutes can mean the difference between rest and unrest.

But how do I just stop my thoughts? Stop thinking through everything? It seems like meditation will only leave me more time to think and get lost in the thought that I'd rather not be in.

Find something that calms you down, and use it as your center.
Concentrate on what you chose during meditation, and cut off everything
outside. Focus on the details of the object and just go through specifics about
it. After awhile of getting used to this, you should be able to
concentrate on absolutely nothing. To concentrate with absolutely nothing on
your mind, no matter how frustrating your life is, or stressful. The more you
meditate the more relaxed you should get, being able to focus on less, and come out of it feeling in a better mood.

to add to what ladoys said, i would suggest breath awareness meditation. what breath awareness is, is you focusing on your breathing. don't try to control it, just pay attention to it, and everytime your thoughts drift away, return your focus on your breath. this is way harder than it seems, and the more you do it the easier it becomes. this is very beneficial to me, and has helped me a great deal. essentially your breath is an anchor that you always return to, and eventually you'll focus on nothing but your breath. this works while your walking, or waiting at a bus stop, on the train, etc. basically anyway you want to do it, and however it suits you, that's why i love this technique so much. the point of this by the way, is for you to become aware of the moment, and not worry about the past or future.

I use audio hypnosis to relax at the end of the day. It's amazing!! Just go on Limewire and search '10 Minute Deep Relaxation'

      Good Luck!!
