      Reality Check & Dreamsign Prob.

So far the only reoccuring dreamsign I've found is that in a lot of my dreams I'm in my old junior high school. The only thing is... I want have a dream sign that if I see in reality i can do a reality check when i see it. But the problem is that i NEVER am in my old school anymore. If anyone could give me any help on reality checks it would be appreciated.

in my opinion, a good dreamsign is something that you DONT see in reality... and the key to success with reality checks is to do them as a part of everyday life. for example, get used to RCing everytime u walk through a door or something.. then when u walk through a doorway in a dream, ull reality check, and u'll realize ur dreaming.... i hope i could be a hhelpp

Reality checks (RCs) are things you do to see if you are dreaming. Like closing your mouth and pinching your nose closed and trying to breathe, or pushing your finger through your hand. Obviously, if you can still breathe with your nose pinched and your mouth closed OR if you can put your finger through your hand you are dreaming.

Dream signs (DSs) are things that seem to happen often in your dreams. They can be people, places, events, or even colors or numbers.

The idea is to always do a RC if you encounter a DS, that way you will know you are dreaming.

Since you are no longer in your old school in waking life you might want to try some meditation to help you remember to do a RC when you find yourself there in dreams. A few times a day stop and repeat "I will do a RC in my old school" or something similar. This should help you remember to do a RC next time you are there in a dream.

Are there any other DS you might be missing?

I might as well ask a similar question here. I've made a few entries into my DJ (see signature) and I believe there are recurring elements but how long should I be doing it in order to pinpoint a good solid DS?

That sounds like a very helpful dream sign! If you never visit that school anymore, then it will become an automatic clue that you are dreaming! The reality check should begin as a promise: "If I see my old school, I will check if I am dreaming." Repeat that, as well as variations and rationalizations, when you prepare to lucid dream. What makes this thread ironic is that while you see this dream sign as an obstacle, what you have is actually the ideal dream sign!

Start reality checking as soon as you get a whiff of what your dream sign might be. Keep in mind certain dream signs can be temporary (I've had dreams about theater these past few days only) or more permanent. Chances are if you learn to reality check with a general dream sign (fear, as an example), it will be easy for you to transfer the reality check to specific, reoccurring instances (being chased by gunmen).

      Abra has some great suggestions.

One thing I've done to help me identify my dream signs is to underline any elements that seem to be recurring in my DJ. Go back and read over some of your DJ once in a while. If a certain person, place, feeling, color, etc keeps showing up, it is a good bet it is a dream sign, even if only temporary.
