      Analysis of the DILD

The dream induced lucid dream is where a person already in the dream state realises that he is in fact in a dream by the means of recognizing that there was something dreamlike in the situation which may lead to a state test to check to see if one is in fact dreaming or a spontaneous realization of the fact. But there is a fact that dosent seem to be widley recognized which is that the realization that one is dreaming does not necessarily mean that this person has more awareness then he would if he didnt know he was dreaming and it is very possible that one may have awareness and not know that one is dreaming which for anyone who has had a good number of lucid dreams knows very well. Let us look at the two primary techniques used for the purpose of inducing a DILD which is state testing and the intention technique (where one recognizes all things as the substance of dreams) the state test is used to bring the realization that one is dreaming which is usualy but not always followed by awareness and the intintion technique which works on the idea of cultivating awareness during the day so that it might carry over into the dream world so that we can have the realization that we are dreaming much easier but to any manner one is not much use without the other because without both the realization that one is dreaming (which leads to the knowledge of the possibilities) and awareness which gives us the abilty to control and understand the situation we dont fufill the full potential of the experience. So with this in mind i have come up with a system that uses the basic principles of the two primary techniques to come up with one that produceses both understanding and awarness.

1.Understand that unless under the correct circumstances the dream world and the physical are indistinguishable from one another.

2 Concentration on breath or sense of self which not only cultivates awareness in the present moment so that in the dream if you are centered on this you will not be carried away by the dream and there will be a obvious difference in the sensations you feel if you do this within the dream (which in itself could be considered a state test) so you dont loose your awareness but look upon the situation in a sober manner so that the realization that you are dreaming comes naturaly with awareness.

We ourselves are not an illusory part of Reality; rather are we Reality itself illusorily conceived.

Interesting insights austin. A few questions if you don't mind, since I'm very interested in this kind of approach:

You mentioned you have come up with a system for producing understanding and awareness -- have you been using this system for some time, or is it new and you intend to try it? What kind of results have you gotten so far, if any?

What activities during the day do you engage in to produce understanding and awareness? #2 (concentration on breath and sense of self) is pretty self-explanatory, but how often do you do this? For long stretches of time, or just occasionally throughout the day? Is this serious, heavy reflection, or just a momentary recognition of where you are and what you are doing?

      Thanks!

Yes i have been using this system for about four weeks and i have have good resultes going from becoming lucid once about every three days to about every other day after only a few days of using this system i use it in any situation where i have a few moments. As fare as how often and how long personally i do it about six times a day for about two minutes each but more is better. The reflection its self should be a rather heavy reflection on what you are doing and feel like while you concentrate on your breath also i usualy take a really good look around at the same time.

All of my LDs are DILD and are a result of a reality check. The awareness when I'm lucid is higher than in normal dreaming. In normal dreaming awareness it is flowy and unstructured but in a lucid dream it is structured and I am able to remember what I was supposed to do and also aware that I may be waking up so I'd better be quick with what I'm doing or about to do. About the check, I do the check when a light in the dream fails which is a subconcious action not awareness that I am dreaming. The awareness comes only after the check turns out positive that I am dreaming and the slew of to do things comes into play. I don't know if this fits your description or not but it's the way my LDs are.

Thanks for the reply austin, I will give this a try. Sounds like you were already having pretty frequent LDs (certainly more frequent than me!), I'll hope I can increase my awareness and LD frequency with this.
