Unhappy Fighting with an alarm clock

So every night, I turn on an alarm clock. Just before I go to bed, I set the time for 5-5 1/2 hours after I plan to fall asleep. Then I wake up in the morning either have turned off the alarm, or have slept through it.

Do you guys have this problem? How do you deal with it?

Try autosuggestion. Say to yourself that you will wake up after approximately 5 hours.

As for turning your alarm off, place somewhere out of reach from your bed. You're just going to have to force yourself to get up. I had the same problem before.
Success comes to those who are not afraid of failing.

Yep, either put it out of reach or practice waking up without an alarm. The latter tends to be a better practice in any case.

Drink a real lot of water before bed, you'll get up.

I have had this problem too.

I usually make a little obstacle for myself. For example, I will stack stuff on top of my alarm so I have to remove it when I turn it off. This usually wakes me up enough. I couple it with trying to remember my intention for that night.

My alarms a tiny $3 dollar clock thats right on the edge of my futon, so it's in my reach. I usually hit snooze until it wont beep anymore and then I'll usually get up. This morning I woke up 2 minutes before it beeped though so maybe that will happen more often.

That's interesting, I do the same thing somtimes, wake up before your alarm, but just before. I wonder what causes that.

It's really common. We have an internal clock.

Once I wake up at the same time for more than three days in a row, I start to wake up a few minutes, or even seconds, before my alarm clock. I think the fact that my alarm beep is most likely the most annoying in the world contributes.

      me too!

I also experience waking up before my alarm is set to go off. Almost everytime I have to go to work or wake up for something actually. Weird.

this happens to me all the time. Like it's already been mentioned, I think autosuggestion is the best idea, but if you have it set to radio rather than buzzer that might be a problem. It was for me at least, because sometimes the stations get all fuzzy and dont make noise, even though a few hours earlier they were working fine. But I think that was just a problem of where my alarm clock was or something.

for turning off the alarm is your own problem but for sleeping through it it probaly becuase its too far away. try putting it next to your head so you'll be surprized and like someone said put something over it so its harder to turn off.

Actualy, my buzzer is either Minimum wage by They Might be Giants, or the Captian Planet theme song. They are both plenty loud. But I think I'll switch to a buzzer. Because I think you might be on to somthing with the buzzer. Maybe it interputs better, as were the music might be obsorbed into the dream.

It's normal next to my bed, I don't sleep through it when it's next to me, your right about that. I've just heard that sleeping with it far away might help you motivate yourself to get up. But I get up in my sleep and turn it off. lol.

Maybe I'll try putting it somewere I'm not used to, but somewere close. We'll see how that goes tonight, and I'll get back to you.

Like Mes Tarrant said, it's your internal clock. If you know what time you want to wake up, your body will do it. I had my alarm set at 7:30 today, I woke up at 7:28.
