It can fail sometimes, even if you're not experienced. However I think you actually feel your body's normal breathing in the dream, and so no matter what you do to your dream body, you can usually still feel your real body breathing. |

After a long time, the mind starts to make dreams more realistic and logical. For example, after a while of finger counting, your mind will get the number of fingers right in the dream. Does this same logic apply with the nose RC? |

This is the date of my first lucid: 3/6/2010
It took WAY TOO LONG - but was completely worth it.

It always fails with me - I've never successed in the nose reality check. Unless I'm already lucid and truly expecting to breath out my nose. I've never breathed through my nose in a dream while asking myself. |

I guess that reality checks are different for everyone. |

Hehe, the hand reality check also fails everytime for me. |

Sure. Usually, you forget that "I can breathe" means you are dreaming. That's how it fails most of the time. |

Exactly right, you cannot just mindlessly perform the reality check, assuming that it's not going to test negative. I've missed lucidity all too often by just assuming that I wouldn't be able to breathe if I nose pinched. When I mistakenly assume I'm awake, the reality check proves positive even though I am sleeping. Weird, but true. Think about what you are doing as you are RCing. |
|
While sleeping, watch.
Sometimes when I do the nose reality check I can only breathe kinda out of my nose, but not completely. I don't become lucid when it happens. |
|
It failed for me the other day; (first time ever,) But I became lucid anyway. I generally do RC's to confirm that I'm dreaming; I generally know I'm lucid before I do them. |
|
I hate techniques like that. If you do them in public you look crazy. My memory reality check has never failed me. If I can't remember how I got some place (and I'm sober |
|
Just remember that light switches dont work in dreams, even if you expect them to or not. |
|
You're not an astronaut.
I cant believe that it fails if you do it for at least 5 seconds. You are just not doing it right, I may not realise I am dreaming from the first second that I plug my nose, but when I keep trying for few seconds, I always succeed to breath. |
|
I had the nose pinch RC fail last night. I'm still surprised I didn't go lucid since I had a classic dream sign - on a plane experiencing mechanical difficulties - and considered whether I was dreaming. I did the nose check, but only very briefly and concluded I wasn't dreaming (or, more accurately, lost interest in why I was doing the RC to begin with). |
|
pinch test never fails. Or hand rubbing your face. Feels like you are plastered you can't feel your nose. lol. I'm inconspicuous in reality. I do my tests so quick and unseen I don't mind doing them in public. Maybe if I'm on stage I won't.. But, then again I might because I'd wanna know why I'm there. |

The nose pinch has failed me. A meteor was crashing down to Earth and I was trying to find a way to stop it. I did the nose check since I swore I was dreaming and it failed. I freaked out realizing I was about to die and woke up. |
|
never failed for me, unlike so many other RCs |
|
Saying quantum physics explains cognitive processes is just like saying geology explains jurisprudence.
it has only failed for me once, but that was only because in the dream I was dead set on the fact that I was wide awake (even though i obviously wasn't) |

I was dreaming last night that I was watching a fireworks show when some crazy redneck ATF agent pulled out his pistol and started firing into the sky and scaring everyone. I was with my bf, and we took off, but we got separated somehow, so I pulled out my cell to call him, and argh.. it wouldn't work! My cell never works right in dreams, is it like that for anyone else? If so, perhaps that could be used for a reality check - you wouldn't have to actually call anyone - just try punching in the number. It never works for me - for instance last night I was trying to dial my bf's number and it was saying all kinds of wierd things like 1-800 -flying-test, and lots of text mixed with numbers, and I was so frustrated, finally I thought "I've called him recently, I'll just go to last calls made and hit dial", and then I woke up. |
|
has anyone had the pinch test fail. Or rub or scratch yourself? Its easy to cover up in reality if you just scratch your arm. |
