      Second Life - online virtual world

      Hey everyone,

      Anyone here signed up to www.SecondLife.com ?

      I'm finding it perfect for LD simulation. You can fly and do reality checks.

      If you are a member, I would love to meet up with you and test out a few things.

      Heh, I found SL through DV, and I've been there almost four years. It definitely has a lot in common with LDs. Anyone can PM me if you'd like to meet up. Xavier, you sound familiar and might already be on my friends list...

      Argh! I don't know how to register. I enter my first name and second name, but I press enter and it returns to the homepage - What's that all about?

      Jdeadevil,

      From what I remember about signing up, you can choose whatever first name you want but have to select from a list of last names. Try that.

      Crazy, I'm pretty sure the old lady that lives in the apartment below mine told me about this one day. Like she's a creator or something like that. o.O

      Xavier Neruda,

      I just sent you an in-game IM.

      I am:

      OBE Destiny

      I know of several groups - very small - that deal with OBE and LD, in Second Life. Once I get more at home there, I will join and participate.

      I just bought a plot of land and a house and contents. Problem is there is a limit (Prems or something) to the amount of items you can have on your property. There is a big learning curve but there is plenty of data available to educate oneself. Like anything, I just stumble my way through and everything works out.

      So I've got a widescreen TV on my land and a comfortable chair and I can watch TV channels or movies. I also have a huge chess set on my land that actually works! I play chess on ICC all the time, but now I can play on SL.

      Because I am self-employed I have time to spend a few hours per day on SL and last night I had a dream where I was in the virtual world and saw a huge poster advertising ,that for $3,500, you could go water skiing with Bruce Willis. No kidding, that was my dream.

      Now since I can fly in SL, I will make a point to do a reality check each time I engage in that action in the online world. Of course, if I am flying in a dream, I will ask myself, "Am I dreaming?" and become lucid.

      I can really see the potential.

      Later,

      Don

      I've had numerous dreams based in weird SL/RL hybrid settings, usually socializing or building, but I've never gone lucid in one of those.

      I'm "Oneironaut Garside." (Horrible name, I know. I'd change it if I didn't have to go back and remake my whole character.)

      I just recently decided to try out SL and explore it a bit. I don't really plan on getting too in-depth with it, buying Linden Money or a lot of land or starting a business. I dunno, maybe. I've found a bunch of freebies that I can do somethings with. But, as of right now, I'm just kind of roaming/flying around, talking to people and exploring the landscape.

      Hehe, I don't know that SL has ever helped me w/ LDs. You could always incorporate RCs into your av, or put an "Are you Dreaming?" sign on your HUD or something.

      If anyone needs SL guidance or just wants to chat, IM Vudu Suavage or come by my place, Gods & Monsters.

      I used to do Lucid Dreaming discussion groups in SL every once in a while--maybe I'll do another this week while I'm off work.

      SL

      Hey Taosaur,

      I will IM in Second Life. I'm sure you have a few things to teach me as I am new to the world. How do I put a RC on my HUD?

      RC

      Second Life is like a dream world. If, while playing, one does reality checks, then, while in a dream (not unlike the setting and atmosphere of SL) on would ask, "Am I dreaming?" It's just a kind of simulation. Nothing Rocket Science just another opportunity. If one was dilligent about RCs in SL then progress could be made, I am quite sure. I will work on it and share my results. Regardless it is a great way to communicate. More fun than Skype and cheaper than phone.

      SL dreams

      So here's something interesting.

      I am currently on holiday. Monday, January 7th is when I start back to work. Being self-employed (I'm a magician and motivational speaker) I only put in a few hours each day of marketing and a few shows per month. The rest of the time I get to watch movies (I have a stupid amount of movie channels via satellite), play chess (I also take Online chess lessons from an expert teacher), and now, Second Life.

      For the past week, since I joined SL, I have been online from first thing in the morning until late at night, every day. I have implemented a powerful RC system. Last night I had 3 dreams (not lucid yet) that took place in the SL universe. I am confident that further experimentation will prove successful. I will keep you posted.

      The little RC trick I use, while playing the game, is that I create a Sticky Note: here is a free link:

      http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/I...tes_Free_.html

      I make it bright yellow and large Arial font. I type in the following, without quotes, “Am I Dreaming?” Then I lock the Sticky Note on my desktop screen. That means that any program I open will have the note superimposed on top of it. Even in SL. Now the cool thing about this is that very often the Note will get in the way of something and I will have to drag it somewhere else on the screen. Each time I move it, I discipline myself to do a RC.

      You don’t even have to be playing SL. You could just as easily set up this system for multiple programs open on your computer. You will often have to drag the little note somewhere else providing the opportunity for yet another RC. If you work on a computer daily, this offers a bonus number of RCs.

      I've been a member of second life for a couple years now, my username is Anthony Asturias. Unfortunately, I had to join the teen grid, where there is little of interest, and I'm stuck there until I can arrange to have my account transferred to the main grid in a bit more than a year, so I got bored of it a while before I became interested in lucid dreaming.

      Halloweenfirecracker, the easiest way to create a reality check in Second life on your HUD is to create a prim, right click it, and then find the option to attatch it to the hud. Then obtain a script that will make it display the sentance "Are you dreaming?" for a couple minutes every fifteen minutes or so, and drag it into the prim. Then, right click the prim, and in the edit menu find the option to make it transparent, so you can't see it, only the text that it displays. Then you just do a reality check whenever you see the text.

      The hardest thing to do here, is create the script. Fortunately, I learned the game's scripting language, and I think that even though I haven't used it in a while, it would be fairly simple to create such a script. I'll post it here, and you can just create a new script in your inventory, and copy the text into that.

      I've joined, as Mos Nightfire. Downloading the software now. I won't be able to play much, only when I can get out to a high-speed connection, as I am now, but at least I do have an account.

      Here's a script for a reality check reminder for Second Life. I haven't tested it much, but it should work fine.

      integer wait;
      waiting()
      {
      while(1==1)
      {
      llSleep(wait);
      llSetText("Are you dreaming?",<1,0,0>,1);
      llOwnerSay("Are you dreaming?");
      llSleep(120);
      llSetText("",<0,0,0>,1);
      }
      }

      default
      {
      state_entry()
      {
      llListen(55,"",llGetOwner(),"");
      if(wait!=0){waiting();}
      llOwnerSay("Set the frequency of messages
      by saying the number of minutes between messages on channel 55.");

      }
      listen(integer channel,string name, key id, string message)
      {
      wait=(integer)message * 60;
      waiting();
      }

      }
      To run it, right click your inventory, select create a new script, and copy this into the new script. Then, create a prim, attach it to the
      HUD, and drag the script into it. You'll probably want to make the prim transparent in the edit menu, so you'll only ever see the text. To set the time between messages, simply say "/55 #" replacing # with the number of minutes you want between messages.

      Edit: Xox, don't worry about giving them your number in registration, they just need it for verification purposes or something. They never charged me anything without my permission, and I've never heard of anyone who has been charged anything without their permission.
