      What's your most effective RC?

I'm doing a tiny little research thing, but not big enough to warrant posting in the research forum.

Tell me about your most effective RC. One that when you do it, you know you're lucid. For me, it's the nose plug. Every time i've plugged my nose in a dream, i can breathe and i get lucid. It's a no-fail for me, as other RCs have failed -- mainly, looking at my hands, counting my fingers (they look just fine) and trying to poke my finger through my hand (doesn't work).

Also, do you have an RC only you do? Maybe one you haven't shared, or one you've modified to fit your personal self?

Memory. I remember where have been in the recent minutes, if I can't remember or if it's really strange then I know that I'm dreaming.

      Counting my fingers. (rarely fails)

I always seem to use that reality check first even if i am using other reality checks at the moment.

I've only had one lucid dream
but I became lucid by jumping
and I never came back down.

So I guess that one works for me!

The classic nose plug because its easy to do in real life. Or if my hands are full the text double take.

Nose plug reality check, hands down. Fish defects also create lucidity nearly every time. A new one that I've been using is Dodobird's idea: trying to bend back my index finger to my wrist. It's a reality check that I feel comfortable using in public. It has yet to fail in telling me I'm dreaming.

Always the nose plug trick. Every time I've tried it in a dream, it has never failed.

The very act of bending down and feeling the LD 'ground' aka environment
      serves to increase dream realism
Feeling the texture of the ground will put you in touch with your LD surroundings.
Run your hand back and forth, feel the concrete, grass, dirt, etc...
When you stand up too quickly, the tendency is for the dream to fade away.
Standing up slowly allows the dream time to 'solidify'.

I was able to increase my LD time drastically after I began to use these methods.
