I got lucid! (At least I think) - Banana technique

It was about 12 am in the morning and I had the urge to eat something. In the kitchen, I see some bananas on the counter and the idea pops in my head to eat a banana to see if I can LD (after reading about successful stories using this technique on this forum).

At around 1:30-2 am I go to bed and I THINK I got I was lucid during my dream. I had a dream that I was walking somewhere and suddenly I realized that I wanted to explore. I thought to myself in the dream "Hey, I'm lucid. I can go wherever I want!" and so I continued to walk around the area I was in. I don't know if I was really lucid, or if I dreamt that I was lucid I can say 100% that eating the banana made my dreams incredibly vivid. And this was on about 4-5 hours of rest - not enough time for proper REM sleep. On the same amount of sleep without bananas I barely even remember one dream.

I feel fortunate to have this work out, especially since before I tried this technique it didn't really work. I guess it's just a trial and error process.

Congratulations on your lucid but I don't think that it necessarily means that it was the banana that made your dream vivid. It's probably just a coincidence, because I doubt 1 banana can make a big difference (though it could've helped a bit).

      Go bananas!

So long as you actually had a realization that you were dreaming and not in the waking world, then you DID, in fact, have a lucid dream.

i know what you mean about not knowing if you had a lucid or dreamt it because it happened to me the other night but as Jared Boz said as long as you had a degree of awareness it was a lucid dream.

As far as the banana thing goes i think that it was placebo, i used to eat a certain pack of crisps before bed and i would nearly always become lucid because i expected i would become lucid if i eat them. Perhaps you could eat another one tonight and see if you get another lucid, placebo can be very effective.

To my recollection there is no difference between being lucid, and dreaming you are lucid. I believe the latter doesn't actually exist.
Because to become lucid, requires a large amount of unconscious awareness, and even if you dreamed you became lucid.
You still came to the conclusion yourself.

And that was within the dream, in your own mind.
So yes, this was a lucid dream, I congratulate you, and may many more come.

No, mylucidworld and the topic starter are right... Your brain can "trick" you into having a lucid... as in you don't really know that you are dreaming. It's just a normal dream, except that you're "lucid" (Not really)

You'll have to have one to know what I am talking about, probably.

Tropicana -- It's really frustrating to get a "fake" lucid... haha I'm going to eat a banana too to get lucid tonight.

It is hard for most to LD, so to dream you are having an LD,
well it's close enough for me.

You just ruined his placebo effect

Now how to reverse: Instead of eating a banana and thinking, "this worked once but it's a placebo," just think, "this banana helps me dream!"

Actually, don't banana's contain a vitamin that helps makes dreams vivid and make it easier to lucid, b6 or whatever? I'm almost sure that they have it.

      800 mg of B6??
That's way beyond the safe maximum...
Above 200mg the amount gets toxic, a maximum of 25mg is regarded as safe. (which is equivalent to 65 bananas, so according to that website there's only 0.3 mg B6 in a banana)

Anyway, I think the value of a banana in helping to become lucid is more between the ears than in the stomach

I'm eating a banana now, which is going to help me becoming lucid too (or at least I convince my mind that it does, and it's healthier than taking an overdosis B6 )

Then just eat 65 to get the safe amount

I think it would be alot easier to buy a bottle of b6 pills, if it's the b6 consumption you are after.
