Unhappy Staying motivated to write down dreams

Here is my problem: I keep a DJ, but lately I've noticed that I'll wake up after a dream, but instead of jotting down a few notes to help me remember the dream later, I think, "Eh, was a dumb dream," or "There is no way I'll forget that," and just go back to sleep. When I first started keeping my DJ I'd remember about 8 dreams per night. Now it is closer to 3 or 4 simply because I have a hard time being motivated to make notes when I'm half asleep and actually remember my dreams. Any tips would be really appreciated!

I had that same problem. I couldn't really think of anything to help except thinking: "If I honestly want to be able to lucid dream, I need to put all my effort into it" and force myself to just get it over with. If you still really can't make yourself do it, then see what times you wake up (after every dream) and set your alarm to that time. Then you stick your alarm clear across the room, in a hard-to-reach place. Then you have to get up to turn it off, and since you are up, you can simply jot down your dream while you are at it!

I have that exact problem. Hoping I'll get over it soon. Unfortunately I'm just going to have to shove a notebook by my bed and scribble in it and hope that's enough. Baby steps.

Or you could use a reward system.

I've been doing it between eating breakfast and going to school simply because there's nothing else for me to do in the 10-15 minutes that I've got. I dunno what I'm going to do now that break is here.

Lucky, I'm always rushed off to go to school and now it's summer holidays I'm too lazy to move when I wake up.

But then mum kicks me out of bed and I forget my dreams.

      I get that too.

It was actually what made me quit keeping a DJ a few years ago, which resulted in me dropping LD alltogether. So now whenever I think my dream was too short or too insignificant to write down and I just want to go back to sleep I kind of just force myself to pick up the journal anyway and scribble down some notes from the dreams.

If I just let myself give in to the lack of motivation it's going to get the best of me over time. So I have to fight it as soon as it comes up. That's what I do with everything in life basicly. For instance, if I really don't feel like going down to the gym one day and just want to skip it "this time" I go down anyway. (unless I have a GOOD reason for skipping it)

After a while I start noticing improvement because I kept at it, which kinda re-fuels my motivation.

      Free software (dream diary application)

I've written an application for recording dreams that I'm giving away for free (it's licensed under the GPL).

      1. It has a notebook with a window for a dream and one for a possible interpretation.

      2. You can put styled text and images in each (images can be uploaded from a file or downloaded from the Internet). This is in case a dream image reminds you of something you've actually seen in the world.

      3. It can easily search on sets of words (finding all dreams that contain all the words)

      3. It saves its file using strong encryption (military-grade Blowfish).

      4. It's available for Windows and all forms of Unix (i.e., Linux and the BSD's). In fact the lack of commercial dream software for Linux is why I wrote this.

      You can find it at
      My free software site

      Pleasant dreams!
