I've never actually had a lucid dream, but I've been starting to work on it the past week. I know it hasn't been very long yet, but I had a question. So far i've been constantly repeating to myself before I gt to sleep that "I will remember my dreams" or improve my dream recall and have been constantly doing Reality Checks throughout the day as well as keeping a dream journal. But will this really be enough tp help my dream recall and give me lucid dreams? I would prefer to do DILDs, so if anyone could give me advice that'd be great.
That sounds like me back in August. I did substantially increase my recall from one dream every couple months to a few every week. It then seemed for a while that I had reached the peak of my ability. I didn't seem to be able to remember any more than that. But, I still kept at it, and I suddenly realized I was remembering a dream almost every night.

My advice is keep at it, and don't give up. Eventually, you will get good recall. Also, one very important thing: When you wake up, DON'T move. DON'T think of anything except "What was I just doing?" Try to focus on that question. If that doesn't work, try thinking of common things that you find, or that happen in your dreams (another good reason to find dreamsigns). Often, if you think of the right thing, it can bring back the memory of the dream.

For example, just last night, I woke up, knowing I had just awoken from a dream, but for the life of me, I couldn't remember what happened, except that my mom told me something, which I didn't remember what, I had a false awakening, and incorporated what she told me into the rest of the dream. I laid there, trying to think of what happened, trying to think of common elements of my dreams. Then I suddenly remembered the whole dream, and wrote down a page and a half in my dream journal (that's above average length for me).

Another thing I do usually to wake myself up in the night to remember my dreams is drinking something before bed. Thanking back, when I started doing that may correspond to when I started remembering at least one dream almost every night. It could be just a coincidence though... The nights I don't remember my dreams now are usually because I am to lazy to write the dream down, and completely forget it by morning, or have a faint impression of what it was about.

About lucidity, I guess I wouldn't be the best one to give advice on that, as I'm still working on it myself. I've only had maybe 5-7 lucid dreams since I started, all DILDs.
