Should be a signal that you're close to being lucid. It's probably the REM stage of sleep, meaning that you start dreaming. Concentrate on something else.
It happens very early, the bit at the beggining where all you see behind your eyes is random swirls of colour on a black background, but a bit after when your body gets all hard to move but you're still able to move it.
Don't force them shut. Try to think about something else, but If you can't continue WILDing, then just stop. I guess there is no reason to continue if your eyes keep opening. I'd try and wait a bunch of times, if it didn't work I'd just do some other technique.
Ah well, at least I can do it for that funny feeling. It's so tickly.
I read that you can solve the eye twitching problem by sitting in the dark for a bit (15 min or so) before trying to WILD. Apparently it's caused by light stimulation before bed, like watching TV or surfing the net.
The thing is, my eyes don't completely open, a tiny bit opens, and even the tiniest smidge of light makes me start over.
I totally know what you mean. Try what I suggested :) It worked for me.
i just asked this question and you seem to be getting a few better answers! lol
yah i know exactly what you mean and its not near REM, im just a jerky twitchy person i guess who can never sit still!
I used to do this when, like we were really young in school, they made us hold hands in a circle and I was always embaressed because my hand kept jerking if i didn't know the person well, so i'd concentrate on squeezing the other hand , of the person i hopefully knew better haha, really hard.
My point is, when i had something to distract me (squeezing my other hand) i wouldnt think about jerking the other one.
Maybe it will translate into the WILD attempt so when your eyes start to move, like really think about your hand and trying not to move a muscle in your hand because thats easier and will take the focus off your eye.
This might make absoultely no sense to an outsider, but this is how i first got lucid during a WILD.
Whenever I try to do WILD, I think "I am going to have a dream" over and over again, and generaly contentrate on that.
No idea what effect this would have- but try reverse blinking.
Yeah, I don't know if reverse blinking will help, but it will help you relax before you WILD.
it may be that your eyes are not closing entirely, thus you're forcing them shut (causing the twiching)
a sleeping mask might help - that way you may leave your eyes open and still have nothing to disturb you
another thing to pay attention to: when you close your eyelids, move your eyes up (like you were tryign to see something directly above you (don't force them though, just move them slightly).. tha tway your eyes will be more comfortable, making the twitching weaker/nonexistant
