Has anybody been able to pull off a WILD while sitting at their desk in class? Or would it be to uncomfortable to be able to do it?
I think that would be an incredibly difficult thing to do as you would be woken repeatedly...Better to pay attention and pass :P, but you know, good question, I'd like to know this also.
I became very close today without meaning to. I jumped out of it as soon as i realized i was dreaming because something freaked me out..
it would be really hard to, but it could be possible if you were experienced enough. You would need to do it during the earlier part of the school day, and you would probably want ear plugs. Even then it would be very hard. Its possible though. :) You would just need to be tired enough. Gah i wish i had my old dream journal. I remember trying something like this during class a couple of times and i think i came close, but i dont remember how close :(
on an off topic note, have you by chance read The Wheel of Time series? that line "dreamwalker's apprentice" reminds me of that series. :D
The hardest part of falling asleep like that is finding a place for your head. You could use your desk, but thats slightly uncomfortable. You see, your goal is to get into a position where you can all but ignore your real life senses. Where I sit in math class is actually perfect for this =) I have a little ledge for the window right at head height that goes into the wall. We also have DEAR in my high school... (WTF??) which is a 20 minute period where the teacher doesn't care what you're doing as long as you're quiet.
I can usually get lucid like this. Its actually awesome circumstances now that I think about it. This is about 2 hours after I wake up so it's like an extended WBTB. The class is normally pretty quiet (although, noise isn't too much of a problem when you're asleep, its just annoying when you're trying to lead the dream along and outside stuff keeps interfering.)
But yeah, its quite possible to do it.
I used to sleep in class all the time back in HS, but I would hold a pen in my hand and face away from the teacher so at least I could pretend like I was reading/writing. Of course, then when I fell totally asleep I'd drop my pen, waking myself up :) How in the world do you guys get away with really sleeping? o.O
I wouldn't want to try WILD'ing because I would be afraid that I'd start talking in my sleep (I do that a lot anyway :( )
Yeah, that's where it came from. I just finished reading the latest book last week. Now I have to start on the prequel.
The only times I've fallen asleep at school is when I literally had nothing better to do (last time I was done a test that we had all class to do).
cool :) im on the 7th book right now. Its to bad Robert Jordon died :( During his last book too :cry:Quote:

I can hardly ever fall asleep in class, but i have done it once. It was during a test that didnt go on our grade so i decided i didnt want to think or care about it. But im too light of a sleeper to fall asleep when there is any noise.
Continuing derailing the thread...
Have no fear guys, the 12th book will be finished by his wife most likely. She has lots of notes and dictations on tape that he made before he died. Just in case you didn't know :)
I'm a huge fan of the series myself. I read it completely about 5 times already... on the 3rd book now for my 6th reread
Wait, don't you need at least 90 minutes to lucid dream? That means like two free periods in a row.
A question: how come you all keep falling asleep at school?
If that had happened in my day it would have meant corporal punishment.. not that I agree with that, that is. What are you guys doing to make yourselves so tired?
I'm never tired in the interesting classes... Its just that we never really learn anything. No joke here.. the math curriculum has been toned down so much that I could actually go up to the board and teach 50% of the lessons.
Its so god damn boring and theres nothing else to do so I sleep. The teacher bugs you for about a week but then gives up when they realize that you're the only one in class that can answer a question even though you were just sleeping.
Whoo boy, arby. I hear what you're saying, but I can barely believe it.. the teacher lets you off? Crikey..
I think it's a shame that the current standard of education seems to be dumbing-down to the lowest common denominator.. the bright kids get bored stiff having to learn at a lower level. In my country (UK) we used to have what was called "streaming" where the brightest kids were put in one class, and the slower kids put in another.. and it worked very well until some liberal-minded politicians called it "elitist" and stopped it. That was a shame, I think.
Anyway.. I'm sorry that you're so bored in class that you fall asleep. Something is wrong with your education system if that is a common occurrence.. no fault of your own, I might add. Things have certainly changed since my day.
All the best to you.
i think that would be hilariouse especially if you get up and go peek at the answers in your lucid ..i wonder if that would work? lol im just kidding but cool idea!
I've done it once, but not quite at a desk.
I take a spinning class, and each week me measure our resting heart-rate. This involves laying still for about 30 minutes. I managed to relax enough and started WILD'ing. I made a bike appear and started riding it. Then my teacher bumped me and said something, and I crashed off the bike and woke up.:)
We have DEAR (drop everything and read) too. Every first and last Wednesday of the month in AM homeroom. I'm in the band homeroom though so as soon as the band director is done taking attendance and goes into his office we all get loud again. At least the school newpaper comes out on one of them usually so we can read that.
Yeah, every school day XD
Dear lord... having that every day even if I weren't in school... I'd shoot myself or something.
 why would they put who through that? half the teacher complain at my school because no one really reads, we just listen to our ipods; because half of us forget to bring a book anway.
that sucks though..everyday..wow.
Oh man this would probably be pretty easy for me to try considering I sleep in like 3 of my classes all the way through most of the time haha.
I've fallen asleep and had amazing dreams during lectures before. Especially If they put you in those comfortable movie theatre type seats. I used to get awesome dreams from nodding off for a second or two. From the time my head started dipping to the time I jerked my head back up I would have a complete dream. Sometimes I could chain a couple brief lucids in a row doing this.
Of course this was in some boring organic chemistry lecture before I changed my major to Architecture. Then I had pretty picture slide shows to keep me awake.
I remember in High school we would have something called "Silent Sustained Reading, SSR". We had to be totally silent and we could read anything we wanted. It used to be my favorite part of the day. Much better than doing busywork crossword puzzles or wordsearches or some other time waster. I'm definitely rocking a private tutor for my kids. None of this cheesedick public school babysitting shit.
