When I was 6-7 I had a repeated nightmare (squirrels and other small furry animals were hanging me and my friends in our garden). Then one time I just realised I was dreaming and yet didn't wake up, I realised I was in control and could do anything I wanted. (I kicked out the animals out of our garden and went off to fly).
Since then I've been in total control of my dreams. I can fly away from the ground or I can make the ground fly away from me (which I find a bit more challenging, flying by staying still and moving the universe around you). But it's not 100%, I can't achieve orgasm in a dream for example nor can I alter my body like cut off my hand for example.
I have 2 problems in this area:
How can I stop having LDs? When I was little it was very enjoyable not knowing that you're in a dream and believing everything was real. I even enjoyed most nightmares (I suppose it's like liking extreme sports). When I start dreaming I become "in-control" immediately.
Also, for the last 3-4 years (I'm 24 now) I have had maybe 10-20 dreams. Most of the time there's nothing even remotely resembling a dream at night. I go to sleep, I wake up and that's it. What's more I feel tired through out the day like I haven't slept much during the night. I know medications can impact dreams and by extension I presume diet too can have an effect. I have a very varied and healthy diet and am not on any medication. I do sometimes have a glass of wine before going to sleep or take a sleeping tablet. I have a feeling this is related to not being able to release control of the dream. Or is it that I lost interest in dreaming (see prev. para)?
