I can do everything but become lucid. Help.

Here's the situation, I've tried DILDs for years, as I really didn't know there were any other methods, and it never works for me. Last night i decided to try a WILD, but without the W, and then again after waking up. I get the vibrations, i start to focus my thoughts, and then(this happened in the morning after waking once) I suddenly felt myself being sucked backwards into a void, and a very very strange sensation fell over me. I heard a loud noise, almost like a man winding up and going ahhhhhhhhhh. but in a very deep voice, and i saw some light. At this point i was like, Alright! Lucidity! but then nothing happened, I was afraid to open my eyes because I was quite sure I was still conscious. So, my question is this, what should I do at this stage?
Also, is it bad that I was excited when I started feeling these sensations? Will that detract from attaining lucidity? Are there any techniques to stop that if so?

You should try to calm yourself, excitation usually kills the delicate hynogogic state. So that may have been the reason your WILD failed when you were so close.
If you get that far again, try to calm down. Don't start partying over your lucidity, let the dream form (or create the dream) first.
