      Queries based upon WILD attempt

      Hello All,

So I made an attempt at WILD this morning (my 3rd serious attempt at it). I did a WBTB, laid down, relaxed and started counting my breaths until I fell into sleep paralysis, at which point I started to get to hypnagogic imagery, which I began focusing on. It was just simple shapes moving around for a while, but then I started to get still images of scenes, which I would describe as movie-like in theme. This all seemed to be going well and dandy, but it never progressed beyond here. I tried to focus on the images and make them play out, but all I really got was the sort of thing you get when you imagine a scene during your waking life, not really what I'd describe as dream-like. More of a back-of-the-mind image rather than one in the front (if you know what I mean). After trying this for a few seconds for a given scene, I resumed concentrating on the hypnogogia and repeated, with much the same result. A couple of times I got audio (not related to the imagery strangely), which always resulted in startling me and breaking my concentration. After about 1.5 hours of this, I just gave up and went to sleep.

My questions are really "Was I on the right track?" and "What did I do wrong? " The current theory I've adopted is that I didn't wake up at the right time, since I could not remember any dreams when I got up. Perhaps I woke up a bit after a REM phase and wasn't in the right state-of-mind to WILD? I woke up roughly 5 1/4 hours after I went to sleep.

Anyhow, this is already turning into a bit of a novel, so I'll cut it here. Thanks for reading!

I'd say you need to step into the images. Like you, I've had no real WILDs but that's what I'd think.

I actually did try to do that, though I'm not sure exactly how to go about it. For example, in one scene I tried to pick up a rock - but it was exactly as though I was just imagining that I was picking up a rock, void of any sort of dream-like consciousness. Right now, I'm actually going back to bed to make another attempt at this - we'll see how it goes.

From what I've learned about WILD, you're not supposed to focus on the images, if you do, they go away, which is exactly what happened to you right?

Next time you get images don't focus on them, just let them pass by. You'll know when to try to step in, or you can do other stuff like imagining yourself rolling out of bed or imagine youself getting up. If you don't know exactly what I mean then here's a link to it.

Many people have had success with it.

What I do is try to imagine that I'm walking outside some where. I'm looking down at my feet as I walk (like a first person shooter game) and when I WILD correctly...I literally step right into the scene and I've entered the dream scape aware that I'm dreaming (notice my avatar??). That would be the best way I can explain it. That was how my last lucid was to the T, step by step. Again...everyone is different and that works for me.

Sounds good, I'll give it a shot tonight. This morning I feel like I had more success with longer-lasting images and such, but ultimately wound up falling to sleep unconscious.

For me HI's have been key for doing WILDS. But that's just me!
