"Update
well. i have been looking at the forum for the past year, and everyday there is at least 1 new "stuck on WILD" post. so, in hope to solve some of these posts, i have decided to try and answer some questions, and give some helpful links keep in mind that i am not an expert at WILD, but i have had plenty, and i know many of the answers to some of the popular questions of the "stuck on WILD" posts.
Before we get started there is one very important question that I need to answer.
What is WILD? WILD stands for Wake Iniciated Lucid Dream. So a WILD is any lucid dream that there was no lapse in conscious from waking, to dreaming. So there might be a couple other techniques on this forum that fall into that category.
so lets begin!
1. Do you have to sleep on your back? Nope! the back is comfortable for some people. and helps some people focus, but there is no way you are going to accomplish WILD if you are not comfortable! find a comfortable position whether it is your back, your side, your stomach, or slightly upright, and start WILDing from there.
2. What if you need to swallow? SWALLOW! everyone says "dont move or you will ruin everything!" but trying not to think about it is much worse! and forcing yourself not to swallow is hell. It will put you off much worse than just getting it over with and swallowing!
3. What if you have an itch? same as swallowing. Just itch it. dont make your life hell.
4. Do you have to have HI, Vibrations, and SP? No most people will have these symptoms, but some will not. And that is perfectly okay! you can still WILD without them. I personally get almost no HI, and i have never had SP (while WILDing anyway) HI vibrations and SP are more like clues to how far you are. They are helpful, but you dont need them.
5. When should i attempt WILD? always do a wbtb. The most popular spot for attempts is around 4-6 hours after you go to bed. Or first thing you wake up in the morning. whatever you choose, DO NOT TRY WILD RIGHT WHEN YOU GO TO BED! that's what discourages people when they don't have success. Your best dreams occur during REM sleep. REM sleep doesn't start till 90 min. after you go to sleep. And even then it will only last like 10 min. It is really difficult just to get to the transition stage when you first go to sleep. You are too awake for one, and for two, its f*cking 90 min away! I know it sounds hard, but trust me. You will have alot more success if you just tough it up and do the wbtb.
6. Do i have to count (1 im dreaming 2 im dreaming)? No there are lots of other choices. Some people like the counting, some people like to visualize. Some people like to MILD, and there are others like me out there who just like to chill and think about stuff to keep their mind busy. It is really a pick and choose thing. Just do what ever will keep you awake, but not too awake
7. how long does it take? Time? time varys. ALOT for some peole. It depends on when you try, and how awake you are, how close you are from REM, etc. I have had WILDs that have taken me only 5 min. or less. But i have also had WILDs that have taken me over an hour. just chill. You will get there eventually
8. I can get to the vibrations, but they always disapear. How can i stop this? The vibrations are very fragile. If you focus to much on them, they will go away. If you get to excited/suprised of them, they will go away from that too. Just observe them passively and try not to notice them. If they go away, dont ruin your attempt by getting out of bed and starting to bang your head on the nearest wall. Just wait for like 10 sec. 90% of the time, the vibrations come back!
9. I can get to SP, but I get stuck! how do i get to the dream? Here is what you could try. Try using movement. If you imagine yourself moving when this deeply relaxed, somtimes you can start feeling the imagined movement! This can be quite helpful if you dont know if you are dreaming yet. Just imagine yourself falling off your bed. If you hit the floor, and can feel the carpet, then you can be pretty sure that you are in a dream. Or imagine yourself sinking through your bed. If you start falling and land, then you can be pretty sure you are dreaming then too.
You can try visualizing the dream around you. and when you start smelling the smells and feeling the stuff to feel, and you can see your surroundings, you have a pretty safe bet that you can start exploring
(Only use this next thing if you have run out of all other options it can ruin a WILD pretty d*mn quick)
When all else fails, sometimes you just have to open your eyes. You might be dreaming already. I have had a couple WILDs where i think that its hopeless, and that i should just go back to sleep. only to open my eyes do a RC, and find out that i am already dreaming! only use this when you HAVE to though.
10. How long should my wbtb be? Some people say you should do a full wbtb (30-60 min) others say you should just get up get a drink and go to the bathroom. For me though, i say wbtb should be just long enough to get your mind awake. Not too awake of course, but awake enough so you don't just fall right back to sleep in 10 sec. I always try to lean towards the shorter side though.
11. Everytime i WILD, i fall asleep! how do i stop this? Focus a bit more next time, and if that doesnt work adjust your wbtb time! if you did a wbtb of 5 hours and you were too sleepy, try 4 hours, or 6, or 5 1/2. Adjusting wbtb times helps. But when it all comes down to the wire, you just need practice. You dont want to be too awake, but you dont want to be too sleepy either. you just need to find that balance
12. I followed the technique exactly, but it didnt work! why? The techniques are more like guides. Everyone is different. You have been hearing that since 1st grade. But nobody thinks about sleeping that way. Some peoples REM periods come at different times. some people need a firm matteress to fall asleep, others need soft ones. The list go's on and on. Everyone WILDs a bit different too. So the whole point of those WILD guides is for you to pick the one that will work best for you, then little by little, adjust and fine tune it so you can have a successful WILD! dont just keep following the techniques exactly. If somthing doesnt work, change it!
13. Is WILD the same as an OBE?No. For everyone that believes in OBEs they say they are very similar to WILD. But don’t get it confused. Sleep paralisis, hypnogogic imagery and all that other good stuff happens every night. You just arent conscious during them.
14. If I dream that I WILD does it count as a WILD? Some people may disagree with me on this, but I think the answer is yes. Let me explain. When you are dreaming, you are unconscious in real life, but in dream life you are conscious. You are consciously falling asleep in your dream world, with no lapse of consciousness in between, till you are lucid dreaming inside a dream! It still follows the definition. You weren’t conscious in real life, but you were conscious in your dream life.
