A good idea or a waste of cash? (digital wristwatch)

Although I'm currently reading up on WILD and MILD techniques, I'm steadily trying to improve my chances of having more DILDs. I do this by keeping an active Dream Journal and by doing RCs every now and then during the day.

A couple of days ago I got an idea; What if I were to get myself a cheap digital wristwatch - of the kind which sounds a little "beep" every new hour...
Everytime I hear that "beep" I'll ask myself if I'm dreaming and do a couple of RCs. It would certainly help me do more, and more frequent RCs than I manage right now.

      This investment I believe would help me in three ways;

1; It would help me do more RCs during the day and therefore increasing the chance of priming my subconscious with this habit in order to automatically do RCs in my dreams.

2; Chances are that I would be wearing the same watch in my dreams. Chances are that this dreamwatch would "beep" just like the real one does and with little luck a following RC would be executed by pure "instinct".

3; I could leave the wristwatch laying on my bedside table. Even though I drift off to sleep, the RL watch would keep beeping once every hour throughout the night. This is sooo 100% speculation, but maybe there is a tiny tiny chance that my subconscious will pick up this RL beep once or a couple of times during the night and then, in some way, transfer that signal to me, in my dream, and trigger me to do an instinctive RC...

I made a search for something similar on the forum but did not find any relevant posts. What are your thoughts about this - I would go for the cheapest watch available, as long as it beeps every hour - but could it be worth it? Or maybe I'm just thinking crazy?

Thanks for reading and for any and all inputs!

Well, a very cheap watch would be what, 10 bucks? It's not much of an "investment" in that case then.

I think this is a really good idea. It could end up working really well for you. I remember LaBerge did something similar where he shined a light (or something) in subjects' eyes when they were asleep so they could use it as a dreamsign.

Before you will be able to start recognizing the beep in your dreams though, you will have to wear the watch and do RCs in waking life when it beeps until it becomes second nature.

There's of course no guarantees that this will work, but I think it is a legitimate technique and worth the shot.

      Mes summed it up nicely.

I have one that chimes on the hour, signaling time for an RC.

Problem is I never hear it in my dreams. In my case it has not helped at all. I've read of others having success with them.

Either way, you'll have another watch to bat about. No big gamble, and the potential payoff may be great!

Hi, I've had some experience with watches for lucid dreaming. I din't use Ur beeping idea cause I don't wear a watch IRL. I have so far bought 2 watches..one Casio analog middle class 18 bucks and one digital sports middle class 16 bucks specially for LDing which I now use cause the analog one isn't so good to use in the dream. I'd say U should choose one U like as in really like not just cause it's cheap....higher chance of seeing it in the dream IMO. The watch U buy will probably appear exactly the same as IRL and U should also wear it when U sleep and do a RC whenever U wake up even briefly...U need to set that intent. Good luck....

That sounds like a good idea, and one I wouldn't mind trying :p. However, the watches I wear are analog, just for the style lol. It could work, and I would say, why not try it?

hey i'm trying to use this same technique. I've set my watch (18 dollars) to hourly chime for about the past three weeks and to a nose plug RC at each one, but I don't think it's beeped in my dreams (if i've worn it at all in them). but who knows? it could work for you. Plus the benefits of well-equipped digital watches (alarm, stopwatch, date, glowing diplay) i have found are well worth the investment

I have a Timex "Ironman" digital wristwatch that has a countdown & repeat function, and sets an alarm off at the end. It's a little longer than the hourly beep, but not a full blown alarm. I set it for 20 minutes, so it counts down 20 minutes, goes off, and starts over.

I think an hour is a little long because it would only go off in a dream if you're lucky; you could go the whole night without being in a dream when the alarm goes off. With the countdown function, you can set it to go off as often as you want. I've used it once or twice to try cueing me to become lucid, but it's never helped me.

I think Mes Tarrant was talking about the "DreamLight" that LaBerge and Levitan developed. It's a little fancier, and actually detects when you go into REM sleep before flashing lights at you to cue you. No idea where you could get one, and to me it almost seems like cheating. Not sure what I think of it...
