I'm sincerely sorry that you had such a bad time with lucidity but I (and many others) have been having lucid dreams for years and don't suffer any "ill effects" because of it. This may be more of a "personal" issue. |
|
I don't know if anyone remembers me but I came here a couple years ago trying to achieve lucidity. It fucked me up. I advise everyone to stop, it messes with your perception of reality. I achieved 100% control to the point where I sometimes couldn't tell what's real and what's not. Sure you might think, "oh I'll be able to know if im dreaming or not!", but after every single dream feels real, you begin to wonder if what you're doing will have you waking up 5 seconds later or embarrassing yourself or even worse injuring yourself. I have constant feelings of deja vu, I used to be afraid of public speaking, and I thought, maybe if I can achieve lucidity I can practice and maybe get over it, but now it comes to the point where I don't even care anymore. |

...I think you may be "whacked". |

I try to deny myself any illusions or delusions, and I think that this perhaps entitles me to try and deny the same to others, at least as long as they refuse to keep their fantasies to themselves. - Christopher Hitchens

Exactly as clarity said, just because you have experienI do know that what you're experiencing could be caused by LD activities mixced this, doesn't mean its the same for everyone else. Several friends of mine have been doing this for over 10 years, with no effects like that. Don't scare other people out of it because you had bad experiences. I'm sorry to hear about it. You should really talk to a medical professional about this, there may be a way to fix it. |

You have to remember that dreaming is another state of counsciousness and there are things that are definitely apropriate in one and not in the other. Distinguishing the two is the whole point of lucid dreaming, it's not to blend them together until where you can't tell the two apart. If you can't tell if you're dreaming or awake, it's probably safer to not jump out a window, kill someone, or do something stupid.. given everyone is different, and i've never known anyone who hasn't been enlightened by lucid dreaming.. maybe lucid dreaming is just not for you. |
|
Yeah, we'd better stop, people, so that we don't become madmen. |

Lost count of how many lucid dreams I've had

Well, that is just the effect on you. Everyone sees it in a different way, but most people have no ill effects. |

Oh, have you tried reality checks? That can tell you for sure if you're dreamig or not. |

Of course, there is an easy way to make sure you really are dreaming. Just pinch yourself. Problem solved! |

Hey - your concern is appreciated and your warning is here for all to consider. |

Ninjas killed my family, need money for kung-fu lessons
Well I guess it is different from person to person, but it is still not a reliable reality check |

Hmm You know what. I half agree and half disagree of you: |

Luminous Spacious Dream Masters That Holographically Communicate
among other teachers taught me
not to overestimate the Value of our Concrete Knowledge;"Common sense"/Rationality,
for doing so would make us Blind for the unimaginable, unparalleled Capacity of and Wisdom contained within our Felt Knowledge;Subconscious Intuition.
That was strange. I've never seen a post like that on dreamviews. I don't quite know what to make of it. |

I had the sam premonitional fear before I dove into Lucid Dreaming, however I took the jump anyway. |

"..it's bad anough that you sell your waking life for minimum wage but no they get your dreams for free."
My dad's friend's daughter (who is schitzophrenic) tried lucid dreaming and couldn't tell dreams from reality. But like I said before it depends on the person. |

The only think pinching yourself in a dream would do is make you say, in your dream "shit that hurt." |

I have moments where I remember something, and then realise I don't know if I dreamed it or not. But it's never been a problem, and I doubt it ever will be. |

Thank you for sharing your story but I have to agree with some people that you may be experiencing this because of an existing psychological/mental problem. |
|
Exactly: Non-lucid dreaming is the dream state that you unquestionably confuse with reality. |
