First WILD - Had never heard of Lucid Dreams

I'm new to this forum, but thanks to google, here I am. How I got here is perhaps a bit strange. I've been working to correct my vision by learning to relax my eyes and get rid of what I guess is commonly called stress points. One of the problems I had was waking up after sleep with lousy vision. So I've been trying to let my mind relax and just concentrate my focus on the darkness. My WILD came one night as I lay there focusing on relaxing my eyes. I had never heard of lucid dreaming or WILDs, but after googling I found this site and have been reading the tutorials and the posts for the past two weeks, thus now I realize this is what I experienced. As I lay there relaxing, I suddenly saw an object (not sure what it was) it became vivid scenery and all of the sudden I could feel hard pavement beneath my feet. I realized that I was conscious while dreaming and was able to go where I wanted to. I've experienced flying many times while normal dreaming and so I tried that, too. After I woke, I went back and experienced a second WILD that night. I've had several other WILDs since, but only one as vivid as that first one. Most nights I am unable to remain alert long enough and I think I try to hard. This is a great site, by the way. I'm glad I found it. Got to love search engines!

      Glad you found us!

I dont know if you've heard, but rubbing your hands together really increases the vividness of the dream.

      Enjoy your stay!

wow, most people try and try to learn to WILD, and you did it by accident. I have to admit I'm incredibly jealous.

Hehe, just more proof that many people fail WILD because they're too nervous or expectant of what's to come. Your case is a perfect example. You weren't expecting it, so it happened. You were relaxed completely, which allowed it to come with ease.
      Stay lucid, stay WILD!

I'm very jealous. I can only Lucid through Reality Checks when things seem bizzare (I only RC when reminded of dreaming).

That exact same thing happened to me!! I had never heard of WILD, or lucid dreams when I had my first WILD either!

Hey, welcome. I actually had a similar experience a good year before I'd ever heard of lucid dreaming. I just thought up the idea of relaxing myself very deeply. After awhile, I had hypnagogic audio hallucinations. That lasted only a few seconds maybe and led into the sensation of flying. Finally, visuals kicked in. I was flying over a heavily wooded area. The whole thing ended within a minute, probably.

I've never considered what I'd stumbled onto that night a lucid dream but I know it's in the same family, only occurring during the hypnagogic state as opposed to REM sleep. Your case may have been different, however.

Like you, I've never been able to repeat that intensity again directly from the waking state, when first going to sleep. But I've done it plenty of times after waking from sleep. Wait, is that what you're talking about? I bet it is...

Oneironaught, I'm the same way as you. Can't every get HI or audio hallucinations whilst going from awake to sleep, but if I wake up late in the morning after a lot of dreaming I can.

For me personally, I get further with WILD's the more tired I am.

Yeah, in fact, I've only really gotten good, vivid audio that way a small handful of times. My latest was a earlier this month. What I heard was the following; I have no idea what it means but it was so vivid and crazy that I had to write it down:

Other than those two, it's only happened once or twice (if at all). But I've never had the visuals quite so vivid or stable since that very first time and, believe me, I've tried many times.

P.S. When I spell-checked this post, I had "hypnagogic" spelled like: "hyponagogic". Google toolbar spell-checker had only one suggestion: "spongecake". What the hell?

      Yeah spongecake is good.

That's cool...sounds like the start of a poem.

I usually just hear music - this time it was wailing brass and strings!!!

      Thanks for the replies

I appreciate the replies and feedback. One of the things that stands out about this site is that people respond to postings and I haven't seen any threads where people get negative. I'll be sticking around to hear more about your experiences and hopefully having many more of my own to share.
