Ive tried the spinning technique, and I have tried being as calm as possible, but I keep losing my dreams as soon as I become lucid.

Aim for tactile things. You have to make your brain believe that your dreamscape is reality (without fooling yourself, of course).
Rubbing your hands together, touching walls, touching the floor; they should all root you back down pretty well... anything to maintain the suspension of disbelief.
