Okay now a really fancy way to give yourself Visual external light Signals when you enter Dreaming, REM-sleep to giving you an hint that you're Dreaming is the DreamMask.

Now I came up with a simplyfied version of it that could have been made in 2000 BC.
Make 2 Pads of a soft and somewhat thick/heavy cotton or textile. The pads should each be such a size that you can put them over your closed eyelids and they completely cover your eyelids + puttting a little extra weight on the keeping your eyelids down. Now on the outside of each pad, in the centre, is a little Ring with a Catbell on it. Maybe the sides of the pads that you put on your closed eyelids should have nobs or a rubber grip layer to actually attach them to your eyelids so that when they start moving, so will the pads.

When you enter REM-sleep your eyes will start Trembling and Shaking and let the 2 Catbells Ring. This you could use as an Auditory Signal that you are Dreaming. And if the bells don't make enough noise you could try different ones or more. Sort of: When the Bells ring you are Dreaming. Just be wary for the sound of bells anytime of the day and night.

I have drawings of this Concept. I will Scan them soon and post them in this Topic. That should give a better idea of what exactly I'm talking about.

What is to stop the bells from ringing any time you move, or roll over? I think my eye lids tremble enough without being in REM sleep for it to work for me. I don't know how other people feel. It's an interesting concept, I have to give you that.

OK i would kill for a novadreamer right about now but unfortunately its just too damn expensive to ship one here so in the meanwhile, why not try a substitue. cant really see the whole cat bells part though so i guess i'll just wait on the sketch for now.

Well at a certain point when falling alseep my eyelids are slamshut and feel like they're glued closed. My eyes are very still then. I think you would hear a little bell-ringing when you roll over but when you're eyes start trembling really fast like they do in REM-sleep the bells will continue ringing and louder too. It's meant for a Cat so you can hear it when it runs. When it walks around a bit you might hear soft bell-ringing sounds, but when it runs you can hear the bells continuously ringing.

It sounds like it would work, though I doubt that the movements of your eyes, can make the bells ring. Atleast, not loud enough to get through to your dream.

Even if it works, I'm not gonna use it though. I probably can't fall asleep with it on. Not even during a WBTB.

Edit: Oh, and about your sig, with the weed thing. No offense, but it really makes you look like a fool

Send the scan and I'll comment if I think it will work.

This inspires me to another idea that does not use any hi-tech:
You put a block of ice in a box with a small hole at the bottom. You hang the box above a bucket.
You can put a small block of ice when you do WBTB, or a big block when you go to sleep normaly. The block will slowly melt. After a while it will start to drip water through the hole. the water will fall into a bucket and make a dripping noise. The water will start to drip only after you fell asleep, and it will not wake you up because you set it far enough from the bed so that it doesn't wake you up when you are in deep sleep. But when you are in REM sleep you will hear the drops because REM sleep isn't as deep as non-REM sleep, and you will become lucid.
A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service
and compassion are the things which renew humanity.

Well then you have the problem with timing. How do you know exactly that you are in dreaming, REM-sleep when the Ice has melted so much that the drops will now make a dripping sound when they fall into the bucket?

The main indicator that you're heavily adreaming is that your closed eyes flip out of control and start shaking and trembling violently. Now the catbells is just 1 idea to send a sound cue to you.

But you have to build your idea uppon the Movement of the closed eyes and then something that uses that as a trigger to give sensory clues. Auditory, Tactile, Visual or Olfactory Signals that you can pick up while sleeping and use as a sign you're dreaming.
