An Alternate To The Nose-block Rc

Yeah so I figured out, instead of blocking your nose with your fingers, just block it from the inside (of your nose) directly....anyone gets it? It may sound stupid but I've seen it nowhere...So now you can do it plenty of times without fearing that people will take you for a nuter (which we all probably are ). The only thing is I don't know if this trick works in dreams, meaning that you don't realise you're doing a RC...(I'm not experienced enough to try it)...any feedback?

It should work, since your muscles are paralyzed. I can perform the RC, which you are speaking of, and it seems to actually work. Could an experienced LDer try this out?

I don;t get why people hold their noses for these checks, I just mkae sure I'm breathing though my mouth at the time and close it.

I just look at my nose. Not directly, it'd look really funny if I went cross-eyed, but I just see if I can see my nose in my peripheral vision. Works quite nicely for me, and it's entirely unobtrusive.

hmmm, well it's kinda like you put your tongue against the roof of your mouth all the way back. not that you move the tip of your tongue at all it's just the whole thing at once goes up. you can try to suck in air through your nose as hard as you want like that and it won't go down. at least that's what I think...I'm describing it as I do it, it may not be the same for you. hmmm, hope that helped somehow

No wait! Just do like you are under water....sotp yourself breathing without pinching your nose....maybe you can do that?...anyway I like doing it as an RC but not sure if it will work in dreams...(it should in theory)

the more I think about it, the more I feel that this would be more difficult and easier to miss in a dream than actually plugging your nose. It's not the same as holding your breath but the action is so similar wouldn't you think in a dream that your just holding your breath and your mind would compensate? That a great idea but for me this technique is a little unpleasant to do. But one thing you can do to pinch your nose without looking like a nutter is to put both your hands over your mouth up to the nose and block it with the tips of the fingers. The posture of the hands is with the palms pressed together ( like when you are praying ) but you put them over your mouth and nose. This is a more normal gesture than pinching your nose with one hand. I hope you get the picture, if not I can draw one...

people have to be pretty insecure to be scared to touch there nose..i do nose RC's like 30times a day, i just make my hand into a fist, shove two knuckles into my nouse quickily, then rub my face, looks like im checking my facial hair or somthing, idc no body has commented on it yet, i do it in public all the time..

I usually just use my thumb and side of my pointer, like I'm rubbing it. I squeeze nose shut, breath in quickly, and let go. I haven't done this in a dream yet. Dreamsigns usually work better for me. Or at least they did in the past. When I get back into groups like this to try and find new methods, my LDs seem to almost go away. If you're a people watch, like at a mall, you'll see people doing this all the time. Probably out of habit (not RCs). Or those older gents and their hankerchiefs.

Breathe out, and tense your abdominal muscles suddenly so the breath stops sharply. This should pressurize your throat. Hold the feeling, and if you've done it right, you won't be able to breathe in through your nose or mouth until you let the pressure relax. It should be obvious how to relax it but in case you're worrying, simply breathing out will do the trick. Think of the way American football players shout "Hut!" (or whatever it is, but it sounds like that), and try to make the same noise, if it helps. Once you've done this, hopefully you should be able to repeat the feeling more naturally. Hope that's a good way of describing it? I've always been able to do it naturally but that's how someone once described it to me (as a singing technique).

I had a lucid this night, so I decided to try out this RC. It truely works. I became lucid by using the noseplugging RC, but afterwards, I tried this one. It totally feels like "Oki, I can't possibly breath in now" and then you can Pretty cool

I can't do that, I'm pretty sure it's a ability that some people can do and some can't [/b] its not hard, open your mouth and breath with both your mouth and nose (most people do this when they breath out of their mouth). now, dont worry about the tongue or anything, and with your mouth still open, stop breathing through your nose and only breath through your mouth. there you go, now if you want, close your mouth and you shouldnt be able to breath (if you can your dreaming which means im typing this in your dream which means im dreaming) so yea its not that hard to get the hang of.

awesome it works. ive had a cold this last week so everytime ive done a nose rc its been pretty painful. i do alot of rc's in the day, sometimes i have to force myself to plug my nose and it gets really uncomfortable, this is a great one to use when im to lazy to move my arms, or my nose is sore lol, so great to hear it works.

[/b] Haha, I can just imagine eating lunch one day and then all of a sudden seeing a group of people jump up, abruptly hold their breath, look at their hands, try to walk through a wall, run over to the clock on the wall and glance at the time several times, stare intensely at their hands for a few moments, look around for some small text to read, etc all at the same time.
