Although I've never seen HI (I have heard hypnagogic sound), the imagery is supposed to start off as light patterns and then gradually progress into a dream-like scene. BillyBob_001's WILD tutorial should help a lot.

I really don't know how HI looks like, but I was hoping you could help me. For me it's like this: First I might see the colours and blobs, but then in time I start seeing hundreds of small items, pictures, landscapes flying around transforming and just doing wierd stuff. It's probably HI, but it's also strange because I can "access" these images almost anytime douring the day (usually). Anyone have similar experiences?

i can create/control hi and even entire dream scenes. i do it all by will alone. i just think of something for a bit and my mind creates it for me. i can even morph hi/dream scenes into whatever i want when i want. when i do this, i trance WAY out, and the hi/dream scene is the only thing on my mind. once i do this, i have almost complete control over the hi/scene.

and yes, what you described IS hi. when i get random hi, it is dark things. skulls, shadowy hands, faces, and even deamons and monters to name a few. its cool to see what i can create sometimes. if i could get into a dream, my control would be near limitless i suspect.

Haha, that's like almost describing me I guess, those skulls and demonic faces eaven aliens used to freak me out, but now I got used to them... at least I'm not alone . I have lots of truble concentrating though, if I "mastered" concentration then it would be eaven "cooler".

Your welcome. It definitely encouraged me to practice WILD. I still haven't been successful, but I have only tried 3 times.

I also get the sounds more than the imagry. The first few times I heard them it startled me so badly I would wake up. Now I know to expect it but it still freaks me out every time it happens because it seems so real.

      Hypnagogic or Hypnopompic Hallucinations
This is closely related to Sleep Paralysis. When a person wakes up with Sleep Paralysis, it is sometimes accompanied by Hypnopompic Hallucinations. An example hallucination would be sensing an "presence" in the room. It is not an uncommon thing, with 30 to 40 percent of all people experiencing it in their lives.

      HI & HS
      Hypnagogic imagery and hypnagogic sounds.
These are images or sounds that come as impulses during the onset of a hallucinogenic state. Usually before or after sleep. Sometimes through meditation. These images & sounds are random and can sometimes lead to HIT. The Hypnagogic Imagery Technique. *Look below.

I actually use HI's as a gateway to lucids. True I see the light refractions and color spots etc. But I also see the dream images as well before I'm asleep. As clear as when you remember a moment that happened in the past. I can follow the images while I'm concious and then enter the dream lucid. This is also helpful in dream re-entry or dream chaining as its called.

does anyone know how to pronounce "hypnagogic"?

my HI has been getting really intense and realistic since i began practicing LD. It amazes me how crisp and bright some of the images are when im falling asleep.
      am i dreaming?

So, HIs are what you see when you're tired and you close your eyes in bed?

I remember being fascinated by them as a child...the "red thunderbolts" as I call them would dance around in the darkness...

After a while, I'd have some fun with it and kinda was able to produce images similar to the ones in Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" music video.
Only instead of black shapes in a white background, it was red shapes in a black background...

That's about as much as I can explain it to ya.

      I love HIs.

I've also noticed an increase in HI's while wearing a dark or black sleep mask. Its a great tool to assist on focusing on those images. Try it you'll like it. :yumdumdoodledum:

Does anyone have any ideas on how to "manipulate" the images? Every now and then I can feel that the thing I'm visualizing is slowly showing up, but whenever I realise I snap back to the "uncontrolled" HI. It's like I'm suprised that it's actually happening and I unwillingly concentrate on my eyelid view rather than on my visualisation. That or something else .

hmm i interact with hi by my thoughts, i tell it what to do and it does it. concentrting on the hi usually seems to mess it up, i just lay there and watch it and i can control it then. i haven't created any objects yet, i create entire scenes and control those though. i should try just making and object and see what i can do with it.

I TRIED using the VILD method last night, and I think I had some HI, but the bad stuff ( a creepy demonic looking clown) showed up a once I let my visualization slip away for a few seconds.

I don't know what everyone else sees, but I usually see random pixel like objects swirling around behind my eye lids. Then I see sweeping white lights that start off slowly and then get very rapid. I can't post links yet, so google "dream machine light" and click on the link that says "Dream Machine - NetLiberty.net". It should be the second link. (WARNING, MAY INDUCE EPILEPTIC SEIZURES.)

Here's something I just made up in photoshop:
