      Hi there.
I often wake frustrated in the morning that I COMPLETELY
botched a WILD or FILD attempt, and I'm going to try having a
music alarm sound every two hours(too frequent?).

Will this cut short a succesful LD?
Will this totally ruin my sleep?
      Is this a bad idea?

Thanks for any input. Im going to try it tonight,
so ill post results unless someone advises against this.

      Thanks!

try sleeping 4-5 hours first, after that you can try to wake up twice instead of once if thats what interests you.

      Here's how it went:
I set an alarm for 2AM, 3:20AM and 5:20AM (it gets lighter at about 6-6:30.) I went to bed at 12:00AM (Tonight i'm going to bed at 11PM)

I didn't wake up to the 2AM, I did wake up the the 3:20AM, opened my eyes and decided to get out of bed, but didn't make it.
the 5:20 I got up and went to the bathroom, and just stood in my room for about a minute or two. I then tried FILD, where I got some tinglyiness, but
I felt like I was dozing, moving my fingers, dozing, and repeating.

Wake up twice? like at 4 and 6 hours of sleep?
That seems to be what im doing, but I threw 2 hours in there
as well, as on the "FILD take 7" post a guy suggested 2 hours.

why not try the more conventional and succesful approaches first before you go on a rampage and make one of your own

Here's an idea that worked for me once (on the only proper lucid I had a 1 minute long lucid) :

You go to sleep and set your alarm for after 4-3 hours and then set it to go off every five minutes. After each time you wake, try FILD. There's a big chance it won't work, so after you wake up again, keep trying. After you do this, let's say, about 5 times, turn the alarm off (or, whatever, set it for the normal hour at which you wake up). The idea is that you'll probably try the nose RC in your next dream because you've been focusing on it so much just beofre you fell asleep. But I believe this wouldn't work if you are a light sleeper, because the multiple awakenings could just completely wake you (sorry for the stupid repetetion).

Hope it helps, I'm gonna try it again tonight.

Edit: Well, it didn't work, I couldn't fall asleep til half past two because I received some disturbing news... I sure hope it'll work for you though (or for me in the future) .

Made up my mind to make a new start,

lol whats so rampagish about it?
I sure as heck am not gonna wait for my autosuggestion
to LD! I dont want an audible alarm as to wake others,
and I have only failed waking only once, so heck, why not try thrice?

mostly because you need to get your actual deep sleep in the first 4-5 hours

I've tried doing what you seem to be doing, eggbert, and have managed to arive at a sort of alarm regime that works best for me:

Set my alarm for 5 hours and 20 minutes after I intend on falling asleep.

Wake up, and either make a WILD attempt, or set my alarm for another 2 and a half hours.

I'll sometimes wake before the second alarm, and will recall one or two decent length dreams as I wake up slowly.

But, waking yourself up after less than 4 hours sleep at the start of the night will do you more harm than good. Wake yourself up after the first 5+ hours, if you must. Then, from there, experiment with different times for the latter part of your night.

My dad took a class in college where for one of their projects they had to keep a dream journal and wake up every 2 hours for that. So I think you are missing some key points:

You said the third time you got out of bed. Dont do this, just record in your dj whatever you remember from your dream. and I agree, maybe you should wait like 4-5 hours before having it go off. But again, the most important thing is to record your dream and fall asleep again. And no, it wont 'cut short' your dream, dream time and reality are two entirely different things.

      Hope this helped
