      HI's and SP

Last night I laid down to go to sleep and instantly saw HI's. I was walking up some rock built steps (following some people) in the image I tripped, then my feet/legs which were crossed at the time shook really hard and woke me up. I'm talking in like a matter of seconds. It appears there is not time limit on how fast a dream can appear and how fast SP kicks in. Even though I jolted awake, I could have kicked my leg much harder I bet.

      Your answer:

A hypnic or hypnagogic jerk is an involuntary muscle twitch (more generally known as myoclonus or a myoclonic twitch) which often occurs during the transition from wakefulness to sleep (see hypnagogia). It is often described as an electric shock or falling sensation, and can cause movement of the body in bed. Hypnic jerks are completely normal, and are experienced by most people, especially when over-tired or sleeping uncomfortably. (from wikipedia)

Many people get this, like i am falling asleep and i have a half dream half hellucination of being in a bus which then falls over and i then my body jerks.

Hmm, I always wondered whether the movement/ muscle spasm/ jolt/ whatever casues the sleeper to wake up or whether it as a result of waking up.
The chemical that inhibits muscle movement during rem sleep wears off when you wake up, so could it be that the movement is caused while you are in the middle of trying to move when the chemical wears off?
      just a thought
      Are you dreaming or awake?

I know what you are talking about. I had like 5 of those one night. Really annoying because I was really was trying to get to sleep and I kept getting jolted out. I think it happens when your body falls asleep to fast. I was physically exhausted, not mentally, and its like my mind couldn't keep up with my body falling asleep, and kept backing it up.
