Nearly had it, I think??
Morning!
Really set my self up for a LD last night, took a while to drift off as i was doing a new technique (the one where you slightly move your fingers) and for some reason i found it so hard to keep my eyes closed? never really happened to me before :?
Eventualy i managed to relax after constantly singing the Toy Story song "You've Got A Friend In Me"
As im stil very new at LD and ive been reading up on it so much lately and im getting great at doing loads of RC during the day. A favourite of mine is to look at my hands, count my fingers, look away and see if i can count 6 fingers. So...... back to my LD (i think).... Just as i drifted off into my dream i done a RC with my hands, looked away and then there was a brown pen lid on my index finger and with all the excitement I woke up.
Then i found it hard to go back to sleep as i was soo frustrated cos i had my LD at my fingertips literally!! :(
Anyone else who is new to LD have you found yourself more tired since trying to LD cos I have, i think its cos its been taking me longer to go to sleep and i dont think ive have a ;proper' sleep for a good few days, maybe ill try for a nice sleep tonight and back to LD tomorrow night????

hey,
Congrats on your Lucid dream, even though it was short it was definitly an LD.
Now for some advice :) You say that you were singing the toy story theme in your head to try relax. You should replace this with the MILD technique or the 61 points of relaxation, you should be able to find these (and others) in the tutorials on this site. Alternativly, buy Exploring the world of lucid dreaming by Steven LaBerge - this is the best book (IMO) about LDing and has some excellent advice.
Also, trying to induce LD's should not make you more tired, if you find that it does it can inhibit your progress and actually prevent LDs. One of the Key factors to induce LDs is to have regular sleep pattern.
I think the WBTB (wake back to bed) technique would be helpful for you. Basically, go to bed at your regular time and set an alarm to wake you up 5-6 hours later. then go to sleep as normal. when you wake up write down any dreams you had, get out of bed and stay active for 20-60 minutes (the longer you stay up the more chance you have of inducing an LD) Reading about LD's and performing RCs in this time also helps.
Then go back to bed and try any induction method you like (I suggest MILD)
you should find that you are relaxed enough for this to be effective.
Hope this helps :)

hi again, thank you for your advise. and everyone on this site has been very helpful and friendly and there is lots of great information on here too!
What i meant with the singing is that i couldnt get it out of my head and it was very annoying, and i kept talking to myself in my head too. everytime i started doing it i would push it away and forget about it and try the relaxation techinque but i cant seem to turn my mind off or slow it down. half way thru my relaxation i would start going over a conversation i had with a friend or just about my day in general. I think i got a bit too worked up about it and thats why i found it hard to get to sleep last night.
Does anyone have any advise for me here? my brain just goes into overdrive when i try to sleep. and i started to get confused a to weather it was a dream forming or me just being restless
Vicky.....xx

hey,
MILD will definitly help then. What you do is repeat "Next time I'm dreaming I want to remeber that I'm dreaming" or something similar. The idea is to concentrate on this, if your mind begins to wonder - about friends or your day in general - draw it back and focus only on your intent to remember to realize you're dreaming.
I wouldn't worry too much, if you've just started out then you have already made excellent progress, it just takes time and practice to control your mind from doing what it has been naturally doing the majority of your life.
Stick with it, you should see an improvement - i'd say in the next few weeks but everyone is different
Good Luck!
