tattoos as a constant reality check..

a couple nights ago i became lucid because a tattoo i have on my inner right forearm wasn't there. this is the third or fourth time its non-existence or distortion has caused me to become lucid.

anyone else have tattoos in a place where they see them often, and if so, have you ever become lucid because of them?

its like a bonus RC for me that i never have to consciously do. i'm so used to seeing a black circular design on my right arm that if its a different shape, colour, or non-existent, i automatically investigate.

      just curious is all...

That is a really good idea. However, for me, I don't ever pay attention to my tatoo. It is on the side of my stomach. Sometimes, I am surprised that it is there. Maybe I should get another one...hmmmm. Probably won't happen, but that is an interesting though.

Do you have more than one tattoo? And if so, is the one on your inner right forearm the only one that ever changes in your dreams? It would be interesting to know why that one may change but any others remain constant.

well, i have one on my back, but that of course is almost never visible.
i suspect any visible tattoo would be at least slightly altered in most of my lucids.

all the more motivation to get some ink done on my left arm like i've been considering the past few months..

I guess this is something like your tatoo, but a bit different too.

Recently, I wrote Lucid on my palm with a red pen and look at it whenever I do the finger / hand reality check. I suppose it'll work the same way as the tatoo, but maybe it'll also say Lucid on my dream hand and remind me.

Actually, I have been thinking of getting a dream-oriented tattoo for the same purpose, or almost the same purpose. Looking at a tattoo that says "Are you dreaming?" or something on it would really help to become lucid, I imagine. You would have to think about the question, and if you were indeed in a dream, you might realize it.

cool... although IMO it isn't neccessary to have it say 'are you dreaming' or anything directly related to dreaming (although that'd still be cool, and a good conversation starter ).

i think anything reasonably intricate would work, because the dreaming mind usually can't recreate detail exactly in dreams. i think the key is to have it in a place that's in your line of vision alot of the time, like hands and forearms.

good idea eidahl, i think it'd work best if you put it in the exact same place every time, and the same word. otherwise your dreaming mind could easily convince you there's a reason it says something different.

and courtney, i'm really glad i couldn't get a couple tattoos i wanted when i was younger (a canadian flag, and a cross). i would completely regret them now, as i've outgrown the reasons for wanting them...if you ever want ink, i'd suggest waiting at least a year, and seeing if you still want the same design. most of the time you won't...

I saw it. Lol.....I thought it was so cool. Of course, I would get a different picture and font in the tattoo, since nobody wants to be a copier....

Semi-related: I have tattoos on my wrist in Kanji that say Love and Compassion to remind me how to act and treat people (I'm a Christian and I also practice Buddhism). They are very good reminders and i bet a RC tattoo would be helpful. (I'm just a beginning beginning LD)
