      My Problem with WILD

When ever I attempt to WILD I have a problem falling asleep. I often have tis problem when I 'm not even trying to WILD. I keep trying to fall asleep, but I never do until I give up. What I need to know how to do is to give up with out giving up.

      please help

"Don't sweat it" .... Im working on my WILDing lately and I notice the less I think about the fact Im trying to wild and the more I focus on say..my breathing the faster HI comes. Trying too hard is counterproductive.

side note: I am FAR from a wild expert..FAR FAR FAR but thats my bit

      too awake

im having EXACTLY the same problem. i too find that i cant fall asleep trying to wild, even when im not wilding. ill lay there for a full hour before i give up. i think what we should do is stop trying to force sleep so much, if youre not tired it must mean your body doesnt need sleep at that moment. im just going to start going to sleep more naturally and try to wild only when im tired. i bet ill get a lot more results that way.

I think you have to let your mind wander instead of going "im going to lucid dream.. Im going to lucid dream"
I remember once my mind was wandering and i was already partially dreaming then i went Oh im falling asleep I get it.. and then i layed there forever and could fall asleep.. I guess you gotta learn to let it wander without giving in to sleep mode..

the closer i manged to get was experiencing the full sleep paralysis, and that was around 3:30 am after i relaxed for a few minutes, that is just concentrating on my breathing and then i just did some "daydreaming" and the next thing i know is that i can't move or even open my eyes. so i guess don't concentrate too much just let your mind wonder around images. that is what i am trying to get better at.

      same here

I lay there trying for what seems like hours. I finally must give up or risk not sleeping for the rest of the night. I have one more week before I have to work. I think we are just trying too hard. I dunno, sorry

my only fully successful WILD occurred when i wasn't trying to WILD. i was just watching HI detachedly as i drifted off to sleep, and suddenly realized i was in a restaurant scene sitting on a stool.

its a very tricky balance between trying too hard, and not staying focused enough. i think h0ju was onto something when he suggested focusing on your breathing.

i find that if i try to have HI, it doesn't come. whereas if i concentrate on my breathing, or sometimes, my heartbeat, HI naturally begins.

and when HI starts, the worst thing you can do is try to 'hold on' to the images, or control them in any way. even thinking about them too much can throw a wrench in things.

its all about 'passive' concentration. i realize this sounds stupid, but eventually you'll get the feel for it.

a good way to get a feel for the sort of concentration required (while you are wide awake) is to do the following. imagine you are home alone, in the furthest section away from the front door. suddenly you think you might have heard the doorbell, or perhaps the phone.

for a second, you are pure awareness. not straining, but alert. you aren't focused on some thing, you are focused on everything.

hope that made even a little sense.
good luck with your future attempts.

I'd like to echo a point made earlier about the need to "think without thinking." My best lucid dreams occur without me ever "thinking out loud" the words, I am lucid dreaming. It seems as soon as I consciously think those words, the dream fades. I've slowly developed the feeling of knowing that I will wild, but never thinking the works that I will. It's all about finding that relaxation state, that thinking and concentrating on nothing that will help clear your mind. At least that works for me.
