I have a great dream sign, but can't "activate" it

I have quite a few Dream Signs, but the one that turns up almost every night for me is a blue ocean. Without fail an ocean will form a significant part of my dreams at least 5 times a week. So here's my problem: I've been trying to attain lucidity for ages now, I think I've done all the necessary things (Journal, RC-ing, mentally visualising my DS's, intention setting, setting alarms at key stages through the night etc), but can't seem to bridge the gap between recognising this ocean DS in a dream and then doing a RC. The problem is that I never see a blue ocean in day to day life, only when on holiday, so how can I train my mind to do a RC when I dream of an ocean? As I said, I think if I can bridge that gap, lucidity for me is as good as guaranteed... Any suggestions?

Well If you dream so often about oceans, there should be a factor in your waking life that influences this, that means when you are thinking about an ocean during the day you should always ask yourself if you are dreaming and do an RC. Everytime something in connection with an ocean comes to mind, question reality.
Maybe you should also say to yourself before sleeping that if an ocean appears, you are dreaming.
At least that's what I would do.... I'm no experienced person though, better listen to the rest of the forum ^^

Izinyo, I would think that it's best that you NOT see this special ocean so often in real life. The fact that you only see it in dreams just reinforces the idea of it being a dreamsign.

I have a dreamsign that I have never seen in real life (tornado), and it is this fact that I think helped me realize that I was dreaming.

It sounds like you're very close to recognizing your dreamsign within a dream. You just need practice - I know, sounds simple.

      Try this:

      1) Give yourself a goal of something to do next time you see any large body of water. Like jump into it and swim across, or go down to the bottom as far as you can go. This may give you the oportunity (within the dream) to have something strange happen -like breathe underwater and therefore become lucid. If you're in waking life, imagine youreself doing these things as if it were a dream.

      2) Get either some video with ocean scenes, or some CDs with ocean sounds and watch or listen to them before bed. I got a bunch of footage of tornados that I'll someday edit together and make myself a nice tornado reel to watch before sleep.

Yeah, nice one!!! Thanks so much for the cool suggestions. Will definately be giving them a try. I think the whole 'ocean dreaming' for me stems from the fact that I'm (at heart) a Capetonian (ie from Cape Town, South Africa), but am now living in the Netherlands (bad weather, no blue ocean). I day-dream of Cape Town quite regularly seeing that my family still live there, and I return there at least once a year for a lengthy holiday.

I'll be trying your suggestions with gusto, hoping to attain this elusive lucidity in the not too distant future. Thanks again!
